So...it's been a while

I know, I know, it's been a while, but I've been busy. (Had lots of fansite updating to do plus friend was in town.) Most LJ time I've had went to commenting when I could and keeping up with all my daily comms. Speaking of which, shameless plug tiem nao! I finally got simm_daily started! Yay!

So, I do have some quick, sentence long reviews of a few things, since I've been able to watch a few things here and there.

Finally, and I mean FINALLY got around to watching the first ep of Ashes to Ashes. I was hesitant, but everyone kept telling me that it finds itself towards the end. And really, Philip Glenister is enough to pull me in. Especially Philip Glenister in roar-worthy suits. Some quick thoughts behind the cut.
I have yet to watch the second ep, and it's been days since I watched the first. I just really am not motivated to keep going, even though I know it gets good. Plus, Phil looking hotter than a bottle of tobasco sauce. The ep seemed like such a formulaic imitation of Life on Mars, it got annoying. And all the shots of the guys looking cool just aren't as cool as in Life on Mars. I don't blame the show. I blame the decade. I have now seen the light. You guys, the 70s are so much freaking cooler than the 80s. The 80s now look lame in comparison. Sorry 80s lover, but it had to be said. Also, does it creep anyone else out that Chris's girlfriend looks like his twin? And the new creepy clown character, well, I watched the Bowie episode of Flight of the Conchords today, and now I'm not going to be able to look at the clown and not burst out laughing. It feels like the rest of the eps are going to be a chore to get through, but I guess, it's PG. And he's hot. And if I can sit through some of the movies my other fandoms have been in, I think I can stomach this.

A few movies I saw that I enjoyed: Year of the Dog and Good Bye, Lenin! The former was charming and definitely funny. I checked it out because I'm a fan of most of Mike White's work (Orange Country and The Good Girl, though School of Rock is a little meh), plus, Peter Sarsgaard! I wasn't disappointed. I was also not disappointed in Good Bye, Lenin!, which came highly recommended via zzb. It's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. So freaking good and charming. Yeah. I'll admit. I cried twice, and not really sad crying either. Just, "damn, that's so beautiful" crying. I still have Wasabi to watch. And I've added Elling to my Netflix queue, as I heard it was good. Though, yes, I first heard of it thanks to the play adaptation John Simm starred in.

Before the post gets too long (I know I've left stuff out, but god knows what!), behind the cut is a pictorial surprise for julianathursday, though all are welcome to enjoy.
