OHHHHHHHH, I need you, by me, beside me, tooooooo guide me

Dude, taking really long walks across campus in the middle of the day in February is a really bad idea seeing as I about froze my ass off to get over here. My one philosophy class didn't meet today so I turned my paper in in my professor's male box, went to the library and read some Jane Eyre (a whole fourteen pages of it), went to the SAC and ate Wendy's (currently making me feel like I have another case of the runs, or like my AIDS is acting up again) and walked all the way over to the computer lab so that I could write a response to Jane Eyre (what little I've read of it) and make this delightful post to you fine folks.

Writing that philosophy paper was really cool. The paper was on the struggles against discrimination in America and what the ultimate goal of it was. I think we live in an increasingly liberal society where it is no longer legally sanctioned to discriminate against blacks, and instead the discrimination has taken on a more shrouded, covert sort of individual discrimination from person to person, in regards that someone could not want to hire someone for a job in their company because he or she is black. But even then, that person has the right to sue under the pretense that that person is racially discriminant. Why are we all so seperated? Why do we all have such specific packs that we all run within? One could say that it's because people tend to gravitate towards those around them that are most like them. What I said was (and this may be strikingly obvious to all of you out there but bear with me) that America is the great melting pot and because of that we do have to seperate ourselves in order to maintain any sense of cultural or ethnic identity. You don't see that in China, or the Middle East, or Mexico, because all of those people have the same culture, the same nationality, share distinct physical characteristics, etc. I think America lacks a great sense of national unity in one part because we are a democracy and because the democratic mandate is essentially every man for himself. You could argue that that's the chief philosophy of capitalism, but lets not deviate. The lack of national unity can be attributed to the fact that America has no ultimate racial or ethnic background. Some would say that our strength is that we are a nation that is made up of many nations. That would be an auspicious point if those nations all coagulated into one specific way of life. Now someone could say that we are a unified nation in the sense that we are all free (if I might be a bit oxymoronic) to do and think what we want sans artificial boundaries. Some could say that American society is divided because of economic or social standing; a person is going to gravitate towards the people around them that are the most like them. The thing is that the black community mostly occupies the lower class, along with the hispanics, and chinese, and other minorities. Towards anyone that says race doesn't matter in America, don't they find it a little bit odd that eventhough we are one nation, that the minorities belonging to many other nations are the ones composing the lower class of American economics?

Sorry I digressed into a political tirade (not like me I know) but it was something I enjoyed writing about and wanted to share.

Oh yeah, I bought the Donnie Darko Director's Cut Dvd (lots of D's in that statement) last night at Wooly after I got out of class. I went to blockbuster yesterday to rent it, found that they only had one copy and that it was gone, but still had a chance to look and see who was on the commentary. And doing commentary with writer-director Rich Kelly was none other than our favorite dick and fart scribe Kevin Smith. I was so excited when I saw it. I know what you're all thinking. That he probably acted very immaturely and detracted from anything serious being conveyed to the viewer. But he really didn't. He raised relevant questions and even brought some questions from his own fans and asked them to Kelly on the commentary. I was proud. Particularly when Kelly started talking about the comic book tableau in Darko, and why how his reasoning for setting up the time travel stuff differently in the Director's Cut was so that he could better establish the rules of the tangential universe, and how they didn't deviate that far from the rules of a superhero. When he asked Smith to comment, Smith very dryly (intentionally I'm sure) "I don't know Richard, it is becoming increasingly clear the more and more that we speak that you are operating on a completely different level from me. I mean I thought coming up with stinkpalming was a pretty sweet idea but you start talking about rules of the superhero and it becomes appalingly clear that there is much more going on in your movie than there ever has been in mine." Very self-deprecating. That's why I love the man.

If we do do a movie watching deal this weekend, it would be cool to sit down and watch the director's cut with anyone who wishes to be enlightened to the point of something knocking the shit out of their ass, into the toilet, wiping their ass, and flushing itself all on its own and all in one fluid motion.

Don't be surprised if I come on in the next couple of days waxing philosophical about the elements of Darko that still fascinate me. But that's another time. Another post.

Song of the Day:

Unwritten Law
"Save Me"

Had a bad day, don't talk to me,
gonna ride this out,
My little black heart, breaks apart,
with your big mouth.

And I'm sick of my sickness
Don't touch me, you'll get this.
I'm useless, lazy, perverted,
and you hate me.

You can't save me,
You can't change me,
Well I'm waiting for my wakeup call,
And everything, everything's my fault.

Went to the doctor, and I asked her,
to make this stop. (whoa)
Got medication, a new addiction,
Fucking thanks a lot.

I had to relapse, I'm bad at rehabs
It ruins everything. (whoa)
So point your finger, at the singer,
He's in the pharmacy.

You can't save me,
You can't change me,
Well I'm waiting for my wake up call,
and everything's my fault.

You can't save me,
You can't blame me,
Well I'm waiting here to take a fall,
and everything, and everything's my fault.

And I'm a death threat haven't slept yet,
Baby why the wake up call
I'm the bad boy tell the tabloids
everything's my fault.

Whoa whoa whoa yeah, write it write it,
Whoa Whoa whoa everything's my fault,
everything's my fault.

I went to heaven, but couldn't get in,
For what I have done.
I said please take me, they said you're crazy
you had too much fun.

You can't save me,
You can't change me,
Well I'm waiting for my wake up call,
and everything's my fault.

You can't save me,
You can't blame me,
Well I'm waiting here to take a fall,
and everything, everything's my fault.

You can't save me,
You can't change me,
You can't save me,
You can't change me,
You can't save me,
You can't change me,(everything's my fault)
You can't save me,
You can't change me,

Everything's my fault.

Whoa, longest post in a while.
