Well, I'm an uncle.
James Barret Skinner came kicking his way into the world somewhere between 2:30 and 2:45 this morning, weighing in at seven pounds even and stretching an impressive length of 19 inches, leaving my sister, brother-in-law, and all the rest of the assorted relatives pleased as punch, as well as myself, of course.
Never has eight hours of waiting for something to happen been such a fulfilling experience. I don't know how many of you have gotten to hold something that was about a half an hour old in your arms, but it's a pretty amazing feeling. I won't go on about it, because the true essence of it is still elusive, but there is something truly transcendant in watching a new life come into the world. It really does remind you of how small your problems are, because there is just so much else out there.
Life is good right now. I wish I could live in this moment forever. But sadly, every good feeling is fleeting, and tomorrow I have to go back to worrying about the four ten page papers I have to have done by the end of the semester.
Wish my mom and my brother could have been there to see it.
