Still back home in Kentucky. What is it about putting my car in the shop that just feels so quintessentially summer to me? Oh yeah, summer's an adjective. That's right bitches.
Just driving to the shop to get my ignition fixed this morning felt so fucking summer to me. I just harkened back to all those mornings of driving to the same body shop in eighty degree weather with a nice song playing and the knowledge that this problem was going to cost my dad eighty bucks. It's all pretty much the same, except for the fact that the eighty bucks now comes out of my bank account god damn it.
Rented the Machinist yesterday. We definitely need to rent it and watch it before the end of summer. It was very interesting and very well made. It lacked the originality and terrifying element that made Session 9 so good, but it might be that this is just a more composed film. It is totally a throwback to Hitchcock; the second you hear the score you will immediately think Bernard Herrman's score from Psycho.
Session 9 felt like a straight up horror movie wheras this one is a bit more complex and dealing with issues in a more subtextual way and in a less straightforward way. Then again I've only seen Session 9 once, but this movie definitely makes me want to see it again.
I'm fucking amazed that Bale played that role and then went on to play Batman. And after watching him in this movie, I'm really excited about all of the doors that Batman is going to open for him. The fact that he's willing to make daring choices and go the full nine in the regard of losing sixty three pounds for a role the way he did on the Machinist lets me know that he will make the right choices and emerge as one of the more interesting actors of his generation. Reign of Fire aside, Batman, this, and American Psycho display just how good Christian Bale really is. I'm predicting his next performance to be rank with Oscar consideration.
Anyways, need to grab a shower. It's a celebration bitches.
