victim blaming!

Today I was waiting for a "recorder" to speak to me in the office of student affairs for arts and sciences today, and the office people started talking about this alleged assault that one of the men's basketball players is involved in. I didn't know the details, i think it just surfaced last night, but a man in the office said "well, what was a girl doing out in her car at 3 in the morning?" I'd been sitting quietly listening but quickly interrupted with "we should be asking what on earth eric devendorf was doing assaulting her at 3 in the morning." the office guy shrugged as if to say "yea well, i guess so" and turned to leave.

and
apparently, it seems
all we know so far is that this girl wasnt doing anything at all, just driving downtown? A woman shouldn't have to worry about SU basketball players punching them in the face when they're just driving around downtown. And I don't know the full story and neither does anyone else, but we ought to be questioning devo's intentions, and perhaps prosecuting prosecuting him and not letting him play until it gets sorted out, not proclaiming that a woman shouldn't be "asking for trouble" by being out so late.
