So....the weekend definitely did not turn out as expected. Originally, I was going to go out for my birthday on Friday night. Then, I found out Eileen was having a going away gathering since she's moving--so I rescheduled Manny Brown's birthday until Saturday. On Friday, I went to Bump, had a few martinis (while I was kind of intoxicated--I've had more there and been worse). Afterwards, Scotty (from work), Julia and I went to his apartment to have some wine---BAD IDEA. Needless to say, I don't remember ANYTHING after that until I woke up in the emergency room.
After the entire fiasco, I now know I have an allergy to wine (don't laugh...ah, go ahead--it's an ironically stupid allergy to have). What it is in the wine that I'm allergic to, I don't know. My bet is on the sulphates (or however you spell it) because my sister is allergic to sulphur. However, I should probably go and get tested for allergies because it was a BAD reaction. Plus waking up intoxicated in a hospital with an IV in your arm is NOT GOOD--especially when your first reaction is to go Hulk angry and yell at your friends and boyfriend. Fortunately, someone was able to explain that that amount of alcohol usually doesn't make that happen so they didn't think I had alcohol poisoning and didn't pump my stomach.
So---a LIFETIME of thanks to Graham, Ali and Scott. Thank you for getting me to the hospital and making sure I didn't die. And for putting up with my apartment and my screaming and my general fucked-up-ness.
Let's just say, the rest of the weekend was spent either in bed (Saturday), NOT drinking, work and packing. And I'm actually totally cool with that. It was a little bit of a wakeup call. While not all alcohol should do that to me, I'm not in the mood to test it right now.
But in better news, my parents and sister are coming up today to go to dinner for my birthday. Yay! Free food at Moshulu and family-time! It's a really happy return to normalcy.
