Necro and stuff

Let me just say that I love the new hotel function space. I loved having everything in one general area and I liked the fact that there was lots of public space for hanging out with friends and for people watching. Necro has the best people to watch. But I was wrong about the elevators. They *were* deathtraps. When they worked. Which they didn't, mostly. My room? On the sixteenth floor. I'm too old to walk up 14 flights of stairs!

The hotel restaurant food was pretty tasty and not horribly expensive. And it turns out that the Starbucks in the lobby was my favorite thing. 'Cause con suite coffee is usually not that nummy.

Parking? Expensive but convenient. Worked for me. What I had a problem with was the commute to the hotel (I went home at night to take care of the pets). Turns out that the Crosstown "Expressway" is being worked on during the weekends. On Saturday, I sat in traffic for 30 minutes and then got detoured through the bad part of town. And I paid 1.25 for the privilege. I could have done that on I4 for free.

So, what did I do at Necro? I spent Friday mostly hanging out with lydialovestruck and her friend slashaddict. lydialovestruck wore her snazzy witch hat, which not only looked cool but made her easy to find. I wandered off to do my shift in video control. This year the Great and Powerful Oz had the movies on his computer and just ran them without breaks. The movie running during my shift was "Return of the King". I paid my bills and did my nails and talked to whoever wandered in. Someone complained about the aspect ratio, so I went to look. Looked good to me, but I'm not an AV geek.

Guy: The actors look all short and squished.
Snazana: Dude, they're hobbits!

Yeah, that's me, always helpful. After video, it was time for the Eye Scream Social. Another great place for people watching. I ran into most of the usual suspects and a few unusual ones. So most of Friday was spent standing around talking to people. Interesting people for a change.

On Saturday, after my adventures in driving, I showed up just in time to do my shift in Registration. This was my first time and I wasn't sure I'd like it. As it turned out, I spent three hours taking people's money and telling them what to do. Heh. I liked it a lot! Then I wandered over to the dealer's room to see Skippy. fatfred was there all pimped out in his furry purple hat and his purple feather boa. He was behaving, but that probably didn't last long. I got Skippy to introduce me to rosewildeirish. I've been reading her SGA fic and have become quite the fan. So I fawned just the teeniest bit, invited her to the Vidcon party later that night, and bought a pretty thing from her. It's tiger eye and has interesting shapes and goes with most of my clothes. I've worn it twice already.

Mr Snaz was going to dinner at the hotel restaurant with some of the Lovers Lane folks, so I tagged along. We all thought the food was pretty good and the service many times better than the old hotel. After dinner it was back to work for me. I work for annmorris, the Masquerade Goddess. I got to (you guessed it) tell people where to go and what to do, until RentgirlV showed up to do crowd control. I'm bossy, but I don't have the presence the she has. Every year I end up going down the line of people waiting to get in and pulling out the folks who are actually participating in the masquerade. You'd think that they would know by now that they don't have to wait in line, but nobody ever listens to instructions. Once people are seated, I become the keeper of the score sheets. The costumes this year were really cool, but my favorites were Ian and Ethan Faber dressed as Dash and Jack-Jack Incredible. Ethan has become quite the ham and really enjoyed his time on stage. annmorris's granddaughters were really cute, too. I don't know what a twink is, but they were really good ones.

My friend, Donnie, showed up near the end of Masquerade, so Mr Snaz and I hung out with him for a while. Donnie and I have known each other for 20 years (and it freaks me out a little that I'm old enough to have a 20 year friendship), and we were roommates for three years during our starving college student period. Of course, we were college students in our thirties, because we spent our twenties in the Air Force. Donnie and Mr Snaz get along famously and it's really fun to watch them interact. Sometimes I think they share a brain. So I didn't feel too bad about leaving them to their own devices while I went to the Vidcon party. Had a lovely conversation with rosewildeirish. We talked about all sorts of things and I think she's pretty cool. We were joined by Teri, who is also fun to talk to (and she has cute shoes). Mr Snaz and Donnie turned up and gee, look at the time. I finished my conversation with the two interesting ladies and headed off to spend a little more time with the guy friends before going home to the cats.

Okay, you know Con Sundays are spent mostly hanging out and not doing anything too strenuous. I went to RentgirlV's Firefly and Fargate panels. And that was it except for the packing stuff up and hauling stuff out. I didn't go to the dinner or dead dog party, so if anything interesting happened there, I don't know about it. I did want to mention that I ran into Old Boyfriend on the elevator Saturday night. Nothing unusual there, except that he announced to everybody that I was his old girlfriend and that his ex-wife, ex-girlfriend and current girlfriend were all at the Con. Yeah, and we all think you're a dork! Or maybe that's just me.

We now join our regular lives, already in progress.
