Ginny

Ginny, her vision hazy, reaches for the bottle.

"Allow me." Snape’s voice is dark, smoky like the whiskey.

The liquid burns down her throat, which is the way it ought to go, and she tells Snape as much.

When he refills her glass and asks her why that is, she blinks and lets his sins cover hers.

"Don't take me for an innocent. I've seen the potions magazines, the way he looks at you. The name he cries in his sleep isn't mine."

"There's nothing between your husband and myself."

Ginny, no fool, knows not to trust that silver tongue.

Severus

Severus watches the girl stumble out the door. She’s left her handbag at the table along with that astonishing secret.

He imagines tousle-headed Potter, neck and shoulders pale, smooth, his arms wrapped around that chit. The image burns Severus's throat, smolders in his stomach. He takes a swig of fire-whiskey to stop the burning.

Severus is sober in the cold air. He stares at Potter's bare feet, pale and beautiful, represses the sudden urge to run his fingers through Potter's hair. "Your wife left her bag at the Leaky Cauldron."

Potter hovers moth-like on the threshold before beckoning Severus inside.

Harry

It takes a long moment and thoughts of a cold shower for Harry to adjust to Severus’s presence in his house.

"She’s not ... Ginny? ... She left me. She's living with her lover now."

Harry looks away from Severus. "I'll get you her address."

Elegant fingers brush Harry’s hair out of his eyes, stroke his jaw. "That won't be necessary."

"You’re not ... oh." Severus stops Harry’s mouth with a kiss and Harry leans into it, leans into Severus’s warmth, hard muscles and strong lines. The world spins, everything he knew slipping away, but Severus holds him steady, cradles him, anchors him.
