Her call was the mew of a cat, sucked away into the gale. Semi-frozen mud slithered beneath her feet, her paws, her feet, as she flickered from witch to tabby in her desperate attempt to reach him. But Snape had whirled away like a dead leaf in a squall, his robes plastered against his gaunt body.
Minerva stumbled, her hands flapping at her sides. “Severus, not you as well. Please.”
But how could he perceive anyone, while his ears reverberated with the thunder of thestrals’ hooves or his eyes blazed with after-images of the sick green glare of death?
