Sorry, no photos yet - they're on Scott's camera and phone (unfortunately the camera stopped working half way through the weekend).
BUT - I can still write about it :)
Scott planned a surprise trip to the Big Sur for our four year anniversary. I didn't find out where we were going until Saturday morning. On Saturday we went for a short hike, and then checked into a cabin just south of Julia Pfeiffer state park. It was beautiful! Our cabin had a view of the ocean and some adorable pet goats.
On Sunday we drove further north to the Big Sur where we did a two hour horseback riding tour along the coast in the forest, and briefly on the beach. The horses were fun and pretty calm.
After horseback riding we checked into the next cabin which was in the Riverside camp ground. I loved this cabin! It looked kind of like a log cabin - minus the bugs, cracks where wind could get through, and it had plumbing and electricity! Suck it Lincoln! There was a large bedroom/main room and a sizable bathroom. I wish we had taken pictures of it, but the camera started malfunctioning sometime before the horseback riding.
It was gorgeous weather all weekend - it was sunny and warm, but the sea breeze kept it from getting too hot. It was still really pleasant and sunny around 5pm, so we decided to go tide pooling. Since Scott had planned everything, he knew where a mostly secluded tide pooling area was: off of the main road, through a tunnel, and down to the coast! The tide pooling spot (Partington Cove) was tiny peninsula that had two coves on either side. It was an absolutely typical Big Sur spot - pristine, wild, and filled with tidal life.
Scott was following me while I was scrambling around pointing out limpets and barnacles. At one point he stopped me and started talking about our relationship and how much it meant to him. I am always touched when we talk about these things, and I didn't realize he was proposing until he got down on one knee (yes, on the tide pool rocks!). At that point I just started to cry. And when he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him, I told him, "Of course!" At which point he put a ring, with sharks imprinted on it, on my finger. I can't tell you how happy I am.
I am so in love with this man. Marriage is just a gesture - and I've never stressed about whether-or-not we would get married, because I am so content with our relationship the way it is. Nevertheless, to know someone else cares for you so much that they want to go through this ceremony with you is...amazing. The way he proposed was so personal, thoughtful, and sincere, and that is Scott, and that is why I love him.
