updating on vacation

So, some higher power must have been trying to prevent Aurora and I from going on this vacation. If it had been any other time and my friend wasn't getting married (the reason for this trip!), we'd have postponed or cancelled the whole thing.

1. Tornado struck St. Louis airport the night before we were scheduled to leave. Our flight was obviously cancelled, as the entire airport was closed while they tried to salvage the mess and get it cleaned up, get the power back up, and resume accepting arrivals and departures. The entire airport was closed for about a day and half before they accepted a handful of incoming flights. We switched our flight to the next day but had to sacrifice leaving at the awesome, smaller airport much closer to us than the big and annoying LAX that's further and more of a hassle.

2. Since we weren't leaving on Saturday, we went out to try and find Aurora a dress for the wedding. As we're leaving the house, our garage door suddenly won't close. It makes all these horrible whirring noises, and we're both just going "OMG WTF". We can't leave it open since we have bikes and some valuables in there. Finally, after maybe 15 minutes of fiddling, Aurora realises there are COBWEBS blocking the sensors. COBWEBS. I didn't even think those would make a difference, but apparently, a little web in front of the sensor makes the sensor think something's blocking the way.

3. On Sunday, we check our flight status. A-OK. We get up, get dressed, double-check we have everything, and Aurora's dad picks us up and drives us to the airport. We arrive with plenty of time, it's not crowded, and we're feeling good. The minute we step into the airport, I say, "Let's get our IDs and tickets out so we're prepared." We start to get settled and Adriann gasps and says, "...Oh my god, I don't have my cell phone!" Sidenote: her cell phone is also MY cell phone. i.e. We don't have another one. 9_9; We start freaking out. I use my iPod to login to the internet and we frantically try and call Adriann's mom using my iPod but nobody answers. We try her brother. Nobody answers. We don't have anybody else's number. Finally, we were able to get ahold of them but it was too late, as we were boarding the plane by then.

Turns out, Aurora's cell slipped out of her pocket in the car and fell into the side pocket in the van against the door. 9_9!

Luckily, her parents overnighted the phone, so we should get it today. *fingers crossed* But still, what a way to start our super non-stressful vacation. 9_9

So far, everything's been fun and worth visiting, but ugh, I wish these other things hadn't started the vacation out so horribly.
