literary nonsense: 2/20

This weekend, I finished reading Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan. In fact, I stayed up till 2am being enthralled with the story and frankly unable to put it down. To me, the first 100 pages or so didn't exactly hook me as completely as I expected. In fact, Will #2 was annoying the crap out of me at the beginning. I was under the impression I was supposed to like him best (so said Aurora when she recommended I read it), so I was kind of thrown and wondering if this book was for me or not.

However, after the two Wills met? I WAS HOOKED. It was such a beautiful story, and Will #2 grew on me so hard that I was clinging to the book towards the end and forcing myself not to skim Will #1's parts to get to more Will #2.

The writing was amazing. The styles were very unique and it actually had THE MOST unique voices I've read in quite a while. Both Wills were just incredibly different and the way each author wrote their sections pretty much took my breath away. It's a simple read in a lot of ways, about coming into your own during the tumultuous high school days, but it's about a lot more. And if you read the book, you will not be able to escape the beauty that is Tiny Cooper, THE BEST "supporting" character in any book bar none. I thought at first he would be too much of a gay stereotype, but he really drove the first half of the book for me, and the second half just became about him as much as the Wills.

Anyway, Will Grayson, Will Grayson is on my list of BEST BOOKS I have ever read.

My next read is The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney by Michael Barrier!!! So excited. It's been a while since I've read nonfiction of this calibre.
