I like the term 'framing device', too... and that's exactly what this was. Nothing much happened in it, but it had to be written nonetheless.

I am reminded in the memory within DH of Phineus calling Hermione a Mudblood and Severus telling him not to use that word. This scene really shows the depth of how that single word changed his life. I also like how you included the fact that there was really nothing to show between him appologizing to Lily and him begging Dumbledore before that fatal event. I believe you have really captured all of that in this scene. Incredible Snarky...as usual. Thank you for writing.
