[Snape doesn't seem affected by recent disappearances. At least not much. Maybe he hasn't noticed yet as all his attention seems to be fixed on the cauldron-full of potion in front of him. It's only when he finally looks up after extinguishing the flames that he spots the PCD, dark eyes narrowing in annoyance before he reaches over to turn the ( Read more... )

[He hesitates because he's worried, but he'll stay on topic.]

What's that?

[x, y]

[Coordinates to his house, Horst. That's how serious this all is.]

[And Horst wastes no further time, and instead manages to get to Snape's home less than an hour after nightfall. He also doesn't knock; he's seen that look--that deadened, eviscerated look Snape had--once before and he doesn't mess around.]

What's happened?

[Snape's in the living room down the hall, looking out the window. Not that there's really anything to see. One might wonder how long he's been there, but he slowly turns around at Horst's entrance, and when he addresses the vampire, it's not about Lily.]

There's a new arrival named Riddle, I believe you talked to him once or twice. Stay away from him.

[Horst frowns and moves closer, to a more amiable distance.]

Why? What's he done?

He's a Dark wizard from my world, the darkest wizard of our age.

[A pause.]

He's the reason for many, many deaths. Deaths of both magical and non-magical beings, simply because he didn't believe that Muggles and Muggle-borns had any rights or even deserved to live.

[He lets out a slow breath, imagining how powerful one must be to take down that many people in Snape's world. And then...]

Yes. I've asked him to come see me as well, but you know what the idiot is like.

[Horst gives him a level look for that, but doesn't correct him. Merlin doesn't mind being called the idiot, after all.]

I can stay here and wait for him. Maybe he'll listen to the both of us.

[Snort.]

Perhaps, but the Dark Lord is particularly gifted at manipulating people, especially as he is now.

Especially if you like arrogant little pricks, you mean?

[He takes a seat.]

If we can't get Merlin to stay away from him completely, at the least we may be able to warn him about showing Tom anything new.

And if all else fails, we'll kidnap Tom and shut him in a vault somewhere.

He can be charming, helpful and full of just the right compliments should he think you have something he wants.

[Snape makes no move to be a host of any kind, simply turning back to the window.]

You may kidnap him if you wish, but I will not be participating.

[Horst watches him for a moment.]

And why wouldn't you participate in such a well thought out plan? Is it lack of trust in my brilliance or...something else?

[Usually, Snape would snort and snarkily remark that there was no brilliance to trust. But today... Today, he doesn't. He's just going through the motions today.]

Do you have some way to protect your mind from intrusion?

[And Horst quietly lets him. Some people need that, to feel as if they're 'getting by', even if it's just an act.]

I'm not sure. I've never known anyone who wanted to get into my head. I gather Tom Riddle is capable of it...?

Yes. It's called Legilimency and can be initiated through eye contact. For example...

[He turns to catch Horst's gaze, intent on showing the man what Legilimency is.]
