[She hands over the top package first, a bag lined with paper. It turns out to contain cookies - actually edible and good-tasting thanks to help making them.]

[Snape takes the offered package, opening it to peak inside to see cookies. He wasn't particularly a cookies person, but Lily and Erebus would probably enjoy them. Maybe Draco, if he ever came back.]

What kind?

Chocolate-chip and peanut butter! [She sounds so proud. She also hands over the other package, much larger but not particularly heavy. Inside will turn out to be a few glass phials and containers that look pretty scientific. Perfect for potions!]

[Definitely going to be set aside for company then. But the second package gets a surprised look from him when he unwraps it, long fingers lifting up a glass phial to the light.]

A useful gift.

[Most people would tack on a thank you, but obviously not Snape.]

[She doesn't absolutely need to hear the thank-you.]

[There's a grunt at that before he sets the phial back in its packaging and looks at her.]

Do you like birds as pets?

Hm? [It's her turn for a slightly surprised look. Not an expected 'random' topic of conversation! But she smiles a second later.]

I had a cat back home, so we couldn't have a bird. It'd be nice to have one, though.
