In defense of the Companion

Have you ever gotten to the point where you're so fed up with the ABSOLUTE WANK in certain corners of fandom that you want to stand on a roof top and yell:  They Are All Awesome, Now Shut Up and Sit Down!   Not that I will, because everyone is entitled to their opinions and have the right to express that opinion in however much of a sneer as they ( Read more... )

ZOMG I LOVE YOU!

This post -- this is everything, this is RIGHT. This is so true and it's something I believe with all my heart and you wrote it so BRILLIANTLY. This is who they are and who they were to the Doctor and I do love them all, and the wank kills me. It really does, because -- what's the point? And the Doctor loved them all and -- and what you said. All of it.

THANK YOU for writing this, and writing it so well, and I can only flail at you in wild agreement and be happy with MY Doctor Who. ♥

I love the Doctor, and his Companions, and I love the show, and the sheer potential of it all . . . but some parts of the fandom are SCARY and and wank is epic. How can any fan of a show so gleefull and FUN be as bitter and hateful as some comments I've seen? Grrr.

*Hugs OUR version of Doctor Who* I feel better now.

I feel better too! Because you wrote this, and it's written and I can link to it and go "see, see, THIS is what Doctor Who is about" and it makes me happy. ♥ I only wish I could be more eloquent about it, since you did such a great job of capturing what I love about each and every companion, but my brain is on sick leave, so. No eloquentness. But lots of enthusiasm and flaily arms and YAY! ♥

DW fandom: yes, it terrifies me too. I learned to stay away from it last year, but it's so massive that it's everywhere, even when I don't seek it out, and everywhere there is this HATE, and what's that about? It's not about the show I watch, at least, that much's for sure.

Enthusiasm and flaily arms are eloquent in their own right, I think. ♥ That's usually what Doctor Who inspires, anyway.

You should link this to metafandom because it's just so on the mark. I don't understand why so many fen think that to support their favorite, they have to trash the favorites of others.

I know, right? Like only one character can ever be good and right and important, and all the others must be hideously deficient in one way or another. It's so very irritating, in whatever fandom it crops up in. Doctor Who just seems to attract so MUCH of it . . .

Hi! And favorites are inevitable -- I like Donna an awful lot myself. It's the hissing and snarling over other people's favorites that gets my back up -- especially when it starts turning into an attack on the fans who like other characters, as well as the characters themselves. The reasoning behind that is completely beyond me.

And the sorta-Doctor was quiet and in the background -- at least after he came face to face (literally) with the fact that he was not the "real" Doctor, and he was physically human now, and going to be stuck on one planet, or at least in one time. And he could be with Rose, which was good, but still, it must have been a shock. That's my theory, anyway.

It did feel weird though, didn't it? Watching a quiet and subdued sort of Doctor?
