future plans are not quite so future anymore

Winter is moving in very fast -- it's supposed to be in the 30s (Fahrenheit, that is) on Saturday!  I'll have to turn my heat on Friday night.  I was sort of hoping to delay that a little longer, but it's already getting uncomfortably chilly here by the computer, and temps in the 30s are definitely worth the heating bill.  Although its supposed to ( Read more... )

Good luck with the moving and everything else! We're moving house ourselves next month, staying in the area but relocating to a bigger place as our household is growing.

The Northgate and Wedgewood areas (which is where we live now) are close to the U-district and easy to get there by bus (if you're hoping to bus, I'd check bus maps on Google, some of the bus routes around here are wacky and not as accessible as one would like...) Bellevue (which is where we're moving to next month) is a nice neighborhood but can be on the expensive side - that might depend on where you're looking though, and I'm not familiar with the apartment situation. The 520 bridge (which is the most direct route from Bellevue to the U-district) can get pretty busy at rush hour...but honestly everywhere in Seattle gets busy at rush hour, traffic here is awful. (In general, I would recommend living somewhere that would avoid a commute on Route 5, as 5 is always bumper-to-bumper at any time of day!)

If you'd like more specific advice, let me know - one of my housemates grew up in Seattle and went to U-WA so knows the U-district pretty well.

Haven't looked at Wedgewood, good to know! We'll probably have one vehicle between us, so somewhere bus accessible would definitely be better (though at least at first not necessary -- Chad'll be doing contract work to start, at his own schedule). He lived in Seattle for a while, and yeah, he mentioned the traffic. We're trying to find someplace north because apparently it's easier to get to the U-district if you don't have to come up through Downtown (and he's said several times we should avoid 5!)

Once we get closer to actually finding a place, I might need to pick your brain again!
