It's been so long since I had a Sunday night off that I literally keep forgetting what I'm doing. I wander around the apartment, pick up a book for a minute, put it down and wander some more. Start cleaning the kitchen, get about halfway done and go turn on the PS2 for a few minutes. Then I remember I have laundery going down the hall, so I run out and change loads. Get back, look at the clock, and think, My God, its only 10 o'clock!
Its a little sad that I don't know what to do with my self when I'm not working. Course, there are a few movies I'd like to go see, but I'm almost out of gas and was too lazy to go fill up. I've watched my Stargate, Doctor Who, and Supernatural DVDs so many times I had to retire them for awhile before I got sick of them. I could catch up on my anime, but I'm so edgy with all the energy I didn't work off in the restaurant that I can't sit at the computer for more than ten, fifteen minutes at a time.
It's possible that I could actually get some real writing done. . . wouldn't THAT be an accomplishment! Well, judging from past experience, it'll be at least another three hours before I go to bed, so maybe I will manage to finish the third chapter of Broken Mirror.
But in the meantime, while waiting for the slugglish thing that is my muse to wake up, here we have the random bit of thought for the day.
My spelling has never been spot on -- my family laughs whenever spelling and me are mentioned together. But since my senior year of highschool its been even more mixed up. Strangely enough, most of what my spell check catches aren't really mistakes -- just weird things to see in the writing of a midwestern girl like me -- extra "u"s in words like honour and colour, mostly. I blame my AP European History teacher.
He always wrote with the British spellings, and I guess all that notetaking made it infectious. Then I kept doing it after I graduated, because now, "color" just looks wrong. I'm sure it'll show up in my fanfiction, and I don't think I'll try to fix it, so long as it's consistent. Spelling, in my opinion, matters less than comprehension. So long as it isn't distracting the reader by switching back and forth midfic, I don't see why it should be a problem. It's not like the spelling is actually WRONG, after all.
And then there's the fact that most of my favorite shows are made in Canada, or England, or have British actors, or Canadian characters. So I guess in my mind the spelling just sort of . . . follows along.
But if I ever manage to publish my novel (which of course requires finishing my novel . . .) I'm sure all those "honours" and "colours" will have to be Americanized. So I'll be reading my own book someday, and the words will look weird. Huh.
