Reaper Pilot Episode

Jan 16, 2008 00:13

So, the one good thing that's come out of this writer's strike is now that most of the shows have run out of new episodes, I can tune into other shows' reruns and catch up on what I've been missing. Even though I wasn't watching any other show Tuesdays @ 9 PM, I wasn't fauxVoing Reaper, like I wanted to. I mainly did this to show protest to the CW for canceling Veronica Mars which had this time slot last year. Anyway, now that it's on at 8 PM instead, and the only other show I watch at that time is NCIS, I decided to watch it this time around...and luckily the first episode aired tonight. I already watched the original pilot via my brother and loved it, but I wanted to see how Missy what's-her-face did in the re-casted love interest role. I know I'm way late in the game, but here are a few of my thoughts on the first episode:

1. I heart Bret Harrison. I loved him on Grounded for Life. He was adorable on his guest stint on The O.C.. And I was very sad when they cancelled The Loop. Plus he's from Oregon too, so there's hope for me to get out of this town and make it in Hollywood.

2. Nikki Reed was much better in the role of Andi than Missy. I found Nikki's Andi to be more likable and relatable than Missy's. There was some kind of down-to-earth about Nikki's Andi that drew me to the character and want her to be with Sam. Missy's Andi was kind of "meh" to me. Wish they hadn't gone with the recast.

3. Tyler Labine (Sock) is hilarious. Rick Gonzalez (Ben) was pretty funny too.

4. Ray Wise is an awesome Devil.

5. The only thing that confused me in the plot is why the Devil would take Sam's Mom's soul if Sam didn't do the Devils's bounty hunter work. It was the Dad who was saved from dying, right? Wouldn't it be his soul that would be forfeit? Then again, I suppose the trade is more even to the Devil if someone else dies instead of the originally intended, especially if that someone is the now-living person's spouse.

Anyway, despite the recast, I thought it was a solid episode. Can't wait to see more. Off to finish a fanfic for one of my tables.
