Is the fact that the tattoo on his hand, "Remember sammy jenkins", is written in cursive significant?

I don't think the movie is a masterpiece by any means, but this part has always bothered me. I've only seen it once but I know some of you guys have seen it multiple times and have probably given this more thought

I never thought so. Fairly standard practice as tattoos go. You could find the short story the movie's based on and figure it out though.

That wouldn't be helpful, the short story only really has the basic premise and none of the details (e.g. sammy jenkins)
