oh, x-files...

For Christmas, my younger sister got me the last four seasons of the X-Files, thus completing my collection. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I have a deep, deep love of complete collections. It's very soothing to my obsessive compulsive soul. At first I was going to pick through seasons six through nine for episodes that I remember fondly, but then I thought, HELLO, COMPLETE SERIES! I have to start this sucker from scratch!

So I re-started from season one, and my goal is to watch at least two eps a day. Some days I don't make this goal, and some days I can squeeze in a whole disc. I'm up to disc two of season 2, right in this middle of Duane Barry kidnapping Scully to offer her up to the aliens. I love re-watching this stuff, it's so awesome. Some of it is painful, of course, primarily Scully's wardrobe, but I love revisiting this series from the beginning. It's also fun to see all the small part players from other Vancouver-filmed series popping up, looking much, much younger. Ah, Canadian acting community, I do love you!

Watching has also made me think back to my early days in fandom. Now, I never really considered my self to be in the X-Files fandom. I'm totally a slasher, and there was never an m/m pairing that I really liked in X-Files. Yes, young Krychek was painfully pretty, but I never felt for Mulder/Krychek. But I was heavily into Homicide: Life on the Streets at this time, and one of my favorite pairings was actually Bayliss/Mulder. Yeah, I know, different shows, but this was not actually a totally uncommon pairing. One of my favorite series of stories was the Exaiphnes series by Rachel and Marti. Seriously, I felt major LOVE for these stories. I'm probably going to have to go back and re-read them all, now that I'm watching Mulder back in action every day.

And I'm also thinking about X-Files fusions, of course. Because naturally, I'm going to want to see what other slash pairings can work with the Mulder/Scully dynamic. I do remember reading a Smallville fusion forever ago, and honestly cannot remember who wrote it. It might have been a WIP, even. And if I remember correctly, rageprufrock was dabbling in some SGA fusion over on her wordpress site. It seems like there should be a lot more though, doesn't it? Hmm, I should probably do a little search.

The point of the whole post is really to say, oh X-Files, I still love you so much! Never change, baby.
