I decided last night to try an experiment.
I'd sleep without my bite guard to see if it could be causing me *more* pain. (Okay, TBH, I'd forgotten to put it in, and I was already in bed and didn't want to get up to go get it, so I thought I might as well run the experiment.)
Oh God.
It's not causing more pain.
It's preventing it.
My normal reaction to pain is to grit my teeth to help me through it.
Can't do that when clenching the jaw causes pain. And chewing causes pain (breakfast was a nightmare). And sitting still doing nothing causes pain.
Do not leave out the bite guard.
I'm seeing a TMJ specialist on Wednesday.
