Call your dentist! I didn't want to tell you this beforehand, but I had the worst pain ever from having my wisdom teeth removed. It was horrible, horrible - *nothing* seemed to cut through that pain. It took me two weeks to get over the first intense pain, and then it was months of residual, phantom pain after that. *sigh* Don't let that happen to you. Call the oral surgeon or your regular dentist. My husband did end up with dry sockets and you need to get that checked. What a dofus dentist for not telling you. *hugs*

If you can't get hold of your regular dentist or the oral surgeon, call the hospital and ask for the number of a dentist on call.

Thank you. I know people who've had the worst wisdom teeth experiences imaginable...I thought that since I was only have *one* removed, and it wasn't surgical, that there would be very few problems. I think I was wrong. :/

I don't think I'd let the dentist work on your teeth again. . .but I'd call him about the pain. . .My mom gets sick like that from vicodin and when she had her knee surgery she obviously needed pain management. . . They gave her darvocet. . . perhaps that'd work for you. . . Tell him you need him to call you in something else!

I'm sorry you're miserable :(

Thanks. :/ I've taken endocet before (sadly, the pills are veryvery expired), but all it does is knock me out for 14 hours. The Motrin doesn't take the pain away, but it dulls it enough that I can function, which is all I need.

Anyway, I did call...he wasn't all that helpful. He told me to get some aleve.

Call someone! Your dentist, or a new person, but call. Don't call yourself a baby, either - your mouth is full of a crazy amount of nerves, so OF COURSE it hurts! How could it not?

Me too! I have so much to do, and I am already tired of mushy, bland food. I really, really want some Indian food.

Getting your wisdom teeth out does hurt. Like hell, so don't panic. Most of the people I know who've gone through it take the week off work. Give yourself time to just sit around and heal.

Also, I'm confused about the vicodin - that seems a bit extreme. Tylenol 3 is the norm here. But dentists recommend you mix the T-3 with Advil (or Motrin). The T-3 is a pain killer, and the Advil is the muscle relaxant, and you need BOTH to really reduce the pain.

You did use ice, yes? 20 minutes on and off for the first day.

I only had one tooth out, and it wasn't a surgical procedure, and my dentist obviously underestimated the recovery time I'd need. And no, no ice. Why? Because my dentist did not tell me to. I had NO aftercare instructions beyond the whole "no spitting/rinsing" and "change the gauze every 20 min. for the first hour." I did start using ice on Friday, and have since switched to heat, but it only helps in the short term.

Normally, people here get codeine. I'd never heard of Vicodin for this, either.
