April Fool's day is definitely not my favorite day of the year. I always fall for Internet hoaxes--at least for a few minutes, and then I find it all very tiresome.

But! My conference was *awesome*. I met several important feminist-types, including Susan Gubar, Susan Stanford Friedman, and Susan Fraiman (as Susan Gubar put it, that panel had a "surfeit of Susans"). My paper was well-received, as were the (many, many) questions I asked at the panels. Claudia Johnson (well-known Austen scholar) gave the final keynote, which was intriguingly entitled "Jane Austen and the Fairies." (It was about late-19th-century Austeniana.)

Also got to tour the Kinsey Institute, who had set up a marvelous display of 18th- and 19th-century pornography for us. It was vastly entertaining, and occasionally alarming. (There were many moments where we'd be standing there, heads cocked, going, "Whaaa....? Oh!! That's his HEAD!" Or something similar.)

I'm really glad I went, and I look forward to going back. But my God, it was exhausting. And I didn't get back until after 11 on Sunday night, which meant that the past couple of days have been hard, getting back into my routine.

Oh, and an update on ye olde wisdom teeth: the one that's coming in has to be taken out ASAP. The dentist looked at the x-rays yesterday and said that it's about to get infected. He was shocked that I'm not in any pain. So on next Thursday (the 10th, I think?), I'm having it out. Fortunately, there's no bone around the tooth--it's a simple extraction with a local anesthetic, so I'll be able to drive myself home. YAY. I was NOT looking forward to oral surgery. (Of course, I plan to have a back-up plan--ie C's boy comes and gets me if for some reason I can't drive, and C. drives my car home--but I doubt I'll need it.)

I am totally behind on the flist, but I don't really want to go back 200. So if I missed anything important between Wednesday and today, just let me know. :)
