Callie seems to be on the mend. I'm cautiously optimistic at this point--she's eating again, she's now on an antibiotic that *doesn't* make her sick to her stomach, and she's getting around better. She's also figured out how to wash (parts of) herself despite the cone around her head, which is fairly amusing to watch, as she has to twist into all of these contortions to reach her back feet. (Which really needed the bath, and she wouldn't let me near them, so I'm glad she figured it out.)

I was just watching her a second ago, and she's so desperate to clean herself that she tries to do it *through* the collar. She licks the collar, trying to get at the tummy below. It's sort of horrible and pathetic and funny.

We went to the vet on Thursday, b/c she wasn't eating and I was concerned that her incision had stopped draining. They were actually fairly pleased with her progress, and we go back on Monday for another check-up. We're hoping that the antibiotics will do the trick and they won't have to open her up again and clean out the remaining infection. (::fingers crossed::)

Her incision was "draining" from Tuesday night on. The vet got it started--all this nasty pus and bloody and just ICK draining out of her, and told me that she would continue to drain for a while. Which it did. All over my apartment. I've got a fair amount of laundry to do tomorrow, actually--blankets, sheets, and towels. Plus, I spent Wednesday morning scrubbing blood and pus off the carpet and, in one particularly disgusting case, off of the couch. (That was all pus, and was impressively nasty.)

Between the two of us, this place was a mess. I started a very heavy period on Wednesday morning, and--sorry, but this is really gross--when I went to get a tampon (for some reason I couldn't reach it from the toilet) I managed to drip blood all over the floor. Between me and Callie, who had been sleeping in there, the bathroom needed a thorough scrubbing, too.

Then on Friday morning, she puked all over the rug. On the one hand, I was relieved to see that she'd finally eaten, as she'd barely had anything for two days. (Seriously, just a few bites here and there.) On the other...there was a lot of vomit, and it took some serious scrubbing to get it out. My carpet has taken a hell of a beating the past few days, and I'm beginning to have serious concerns about my damage deposit.

So, yeah. Period woes + sick cat =! fun. However, there was one bit of delightful relief. Thermacare makes these awesome heated wrap things that you stick in your underwear against your lower abdomen--fantastic for cramps. The school pharmacy carries them, and I went over on Wednesday to get some, b/c in addition to being exhausted and stressed over the cat, I was in serious pain and struggling to keep food down.

Oh, yeah. I'm going back on the Pill tomorrow. The last two periods have been debilitating, and the PMS feels like a nervous breakdown. Got my prescription renewed at my (typically excruciating) gynecologist's appointment on Tuesday. (Tuesday, on the whole, sucked--and it was worse b/c things were finally starting to look up.) Here's hoping February is a far kinder month than January.
