I haven't updated in, like, a week, so I thought I'd make an effort this time.
I feel like I've been beaten. Why? B/c I--Queen of P.E. avoidances, Queen of Klutzes, and Girly Girl--played softball on Tuesday. And I'm planning to stick with it.
Every summer, the English Department puts together an intramural softball team. I've wanted to play for years, but I've never been able to do it, b/c I've always been gone for at least half the summer. But! I'll be here for both practices AND games (when they start in July), so I can play.
I bought a glove and everything. Of course, my hands are so tiny that I had to buy a "youth" glove--even the smallest adult gloves were painfully big on me.
Anyway. I'm sore b/c I used muscles I'm not used to using, and we have practice again this afternoon. Despite the pain, I'm looking forward to it. Turns out I'm not *that* bad. I'm not what you'd call good, but I can catch fairly reliably, throw accurately (though not very far)...and...well, I can't really hit the broad side of a barn, but it's a start, at least.
There's literally nothing else going on. I went to a cool antiques mall and found some really neat vintage linens. I've been grading papers, going to bed early, taking long baths, and writing.
My existence is so exciting. :) (Oh, I am reading this really interesting book--Selling Anxiety, which is all about how the media over the past few years has been scaring the crap out of women in regards to their intellectual and emotional successes. The author--herself a respected journalist--compiles and analyzes the evidence to show how the media has sensationalized poorly-done studies of women being miserable in the workplace or happy only if they return to the home. It's nothing I didn't already know, but it's reassuring to see these studies blown to bits. Though I will say that it's definitely not an unbiased read.)
