Post!college grad Nathan Ford (think Ordinary People for a visual) is sick and tired of the formulaic way his life has turned. Instead of going for the yuppie route straight out of college, he takes his graduation money, buys a junker, and heads out for a cross-country road trip. His junker quits around the Oklahoma state line and he has to tow it to the small town mechanic. The owner isn't there, but the high school drop-out, former football captain turned mechanic, Eliot Spencer, is.
Unfortunately, the car blown a part that requires three weeks to get. Frustrated, Nate holes himself up at an inn owned by an intriguing failed actress and a wacky kleptomaniac who is in like-love with a technology nerd on the brink of great innovation.

Sailing the Seven Seas! Pet monkeys! Nate the governor of some British colony in the Caribbean and Eliot the pirate captain! All uptight and proper until Eliot presses him against the wall and pulls that cravat loose and marks Nate up all nice and messily. And then leaves, maybe, and Nate's trying to go back to being the uptight, proper, well-mannered governor and realises that it's not what he wants, not really. But will Eliot the Merciless return? Will he take Nate with him when he leaves? And what's Maggie been doing since she ran away after Sam died? (Pirate Queen, Pirate Queen! *bounces*) SO MANY QUESTIONS!
Why, yes, I have just re-watched the first three PotC movies and then watched the fourth. Which, btw, infinitely makes up for the shoddy plot of the 2nd and 3rd. XD

Eliot and Nate are rival NASCAR racers, always have been since Eliot came on the circuit a fresh-faced greenhorn heralded as ready to take Nate's spot as top dog seven years ago. The rivalry is good press, but Eliot's heart isn't in it...especially ever since the day he saw Nate take his son out to a local the Go-Karting course. He becomes more hermit-like, refusing to talk to anyone. Parker, as Eliot's pit crew boss, and Hardison, as Nate's pit crew boss, along with star reporter Sophie try to get the two together.

Shifter!AU, gen or pre-slash
Everyone but Nate is an unregistered shifter. Eliot used to be registered in the Army, but because he was Special Ops, his records were expunged when his unit fell off the map. Even though Nate is not a shifter, they all look up to him for guidance. When Nate is so close to falling off the rails, the rest of the team comes together to figure out who's going to be Nate's right-hand person the only way shifters can: ritualistic violence. Every team member shifts into their favorite animal (except Hardison because he doesn't believe in it) and fights.
Not to step on the author's toes, but I'd really like to see these shifting forms:

Okay, this is probably done to death (I don't know), especially if you look up the meaning of "Nathan" and "Eliot".
Nathan is one of God's prophets, but he's still latent. Eliot isn't an archangel, but since Nathan's not technically a prophet, he can still watch over his charge as Nate's original guardian angel. During a mission, Nate's prophet blood awakens (maybe to do with something in the SPN 'verse) and Eliot fights tooth and nail to continue being Nate's protector. No arch angel is going to watch over what is his.
(It would be hilarious if Baltazar--prior to the season finale--was to be Nathan's Arch angel)
