As I am currently unemployed, I have an abundance of free time. I read, everyday usually, at least once in the morning on the can. I leaf through books at other times as well, but I always take a book into the restroom, it seems like such wasted time otherwise.

Today, I read a short story in a book of short stories. The theme of the book is post-apocalypse scenarios, or rather the aftermath for the survivors of nuclear wars, plagues and other catastrophic events that destroy civilization as we know it. Today, the story was your typical story about the life of the last man on earth. Additionally, a narrator attempts to analyze end of the world stories, at intervals, by supplying observations on other historic catastrophes like the extinction of the dinosaurs, the eruption at Pompeii, the bubonic plague, etc.

Apparently there are three types of survivors; the rugged individualist, the one who can use automatic firearms, delivery babies and by the end will be on the way to rebuilding civilization without embracing the Bad Old Ways, if he is smart enough; the bandit, often find themselves facing off against the rugged survivor, wants to see the rest of the world burn, loots, pillages and drives sports cars through the city tossing Molotov cocktails, he embraces the Bad Old Ways; finally there is the world weary sophisticate, they drink too much and suffer from ennui.

I had to look up the word ennui. I'm working on my vocabulary, I'm working on a lot of things actually. None of these things offer much in the way of a decent wage.
