I got an internship! It almost seemed too easy, I don't this company put out an ad or anything for interns, there didn't seem to be much competition. Or else there was a lot of competition and I was just soooo perfect for the job, but I don't really see that as being the case either. It starts next Monday, and it's in the city. I don't have class on Mondays or Wednesdays so those will be the days that I will be going in. Kind of a hassle to go in, especially with it being unpaid, but I think the experience and references will be really great. Part of the reason that made me accept it was my mom saying that kids today are actually paying thousands of dollars for an internship, and here I am about to turn one down because of travel and time. But really, where better to have an internship than New York City? For a national magazine?
I had some moral issues about taking the internship because the person who set it up for me ended up getting fired or laid off, whichever, and I felt bad that I would be there when the person who helped me out wouldn't be! But I really don't think I would find another internship because whenever I've searched for them online, I've come up short. Companies want graphic design interns who have the qualifications of someone who should be looking for a job, not an internship. I am not a pro at any of these programs, mainly because right now I am taking the core fine arts classes, like drawing and 2d and 3d design. Quinnipiac taught me so much about Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, and a fair amount about Dreamweaver and Flash. But not enough that I can work these programs without assistance and produce a perfect magazine spread. Actually, we did cover that in class, but I don't know if I'm comfortable enough yet! Even when I was at the interview for this internship, I was getting really nervous because I was afraid that I wouldn't be capable of the things asked of me. But it's really a learning experience, and I'm a fast learner so I think I can keep up. Hopefully.
I'm getting this camera and I'm so excited! The Canon EOS Rebel XS
