Finally bonding with my new house, after spending a very lazy Sunday flopping around in it - trying out the new bath, finding the best spot for curling up with a book, discovering that having a dishwasher is really, really wonderful! I never thought I would be the kind of person to have a dishwasher. Nor for that matter, becoming a coffee snob. Teenage me would have been very scathing. I haven't changed completely, however. I still have my flashes of foul temper and will still stick on Suede's "New Generation" and leap around my bedroom like the floppy-haired indie kid I've always been. Can it really be eleven years since I bought "Dog Man Star", my first CD? Eleven years since the halcyon Britpop Summer of '95? Yikes.
Evil swine of an ex-landlord has turned out to be not the real landlord. The man who bullied us and threw us out of the old flat in order to sell it is actually the real landlord's father, who was trying to sell all his son's UK property and rip him off. The real landlord called us the other day from his home in Cyprus to ask why we'd moved out without telling him... Argh, I am so sick of not owning my own home. I don't care about these guys and their family issues, I just need my deposit back, preferably without having to go to court for it.
Had a(nother) job interview on Friday. It was painful. The two sisters, obnoxious daughters of the gallery owner, grilled me for 40 mins at lunchtime then gave me a written test without any warning, or even enough time to complete it. Came away almost in tears and despairing of myself, only to be informed by my recruitment consultant on Monday that they really liked me and want me to go back for a second interview. I wasn't expecting that! I would normally tell them to stick it, but I could do with the pay rise. Oh, decisions. Never my strong point.
Have just finished reading "The Fencing Master" by Arturo Perez-Reverte and want to recommend it as a thriller for people who don' t like thrillers (eg, me). Am now having yet another crack at "Trois Mousquetaires", en francais. I can only do a dozen chapters at a time before my eyes go crossed and I have to put it down for six months.
