Another year has come and gone, 2009 was a pretty exciting one! Moved from Arizona to Washington, was unemployed for almost 3 months, worked as a house cleaner (for a very short time) and as a security guard for concerts over the summer. Landed what has to be the best job I have ever had in June with All the Best Petcare. Was promoted to Assistant manager two weeks ago and since then it has been a whirlwind of activity! Our previous assistant manager received her own store a couple of months ago so there has been a ton of catching up to do. :D In December I finally underwent a procedure to donate eggs to a couple that was unable to have children. I had been planning a tentative trip to Japan before then and once I received my compensation, I was able to get the ball rolling on the trip. I can't believe I'm leaving in 13 days! I'm taking a goat with me for pictures while on the trip. It's been two years since I went to Japan and I have missed it every day since then. I think it bugs Derek to no end but I am constantly trying to find ways to go back or make it work that we can live there. I even volunteered to pay all of his bills once I graduate so that he can go to school for whatever he wants, get a BA and move with me. I will be applying for the JET programme (or something similar) once I graduate (two years from now). : ( UW has received all of my transcripts and my application is pending review. I won't hear anything until April or June and the wait is killing me. I think aside from moving, applying at the University was my biggest accomplishment of the year. I just need to make attending the University my biggest one of this year. :D The more I think about wanting to travel abroad and go to Jet for a year the more I think about the pet situation I'm stuck in. As much as I want a cat/dog/ferret/rabbit, I need to think about the animal's housing situation and what would happen if I left for 6 months to a year. So (anyone who has been around me in the past year will probably start tearing their hair out) I'm getting........a snake. It's not totally random and there are good reasons:
1. If I leave, there is a much better chance for Derek to take care of a snake.
2. A snake will not need constant affection and can be left at home alone while I am at work or school.
3. I actually really like snakes and loved taking care of one over a summer in high school.
4. They are very easy to feed.
5. Although they require a vet specialist, they do not require as much medical care, vaccinations, and pet licensing.
They're not as much fun as dogs or cats (as far as playing or training) but they can coil around your arm or in your lap, you don't have to worry about them pooping on you and they don't bark.
We'll see how this goes...looking at Ball Pythons, max of 5 feet long.
