Family matching seems like a good idea in principle, and this is a very believable beginning to Severus and Lily's first year! As well, I appreciate how slick Mr. Evans is in slipping Severus some gold; it's well done. :D

I'd like for at least ONE ADULT to have been kind to Severus as a kid.

This made me both happy and sad. There was so much excitement and hope for the future from both of them, and all the potential in the world.

Lily’s father giving Severus the money made my heart happy.

Since we know Lily's family adored her, I like to think her dad at least would have liked knowing Severus was looking out for her, and would have helped HIM as well.

These younger stories are bittersweet because the hope is always there. Nicely done.

This is great! I really enjoyed your idea of matching families. So sensible!

It was very bittersweet.

Thanks MA!

Thanks so much, Groooooooot!

(Is it weird that the logistics-oriented part of my brain just wants to know how things worked in this system?)

I really liked this view of Lily's family, especially her dad. This in particular stood out:

Mr. Evans had made sure to shake his hand before they all left. 'You'll be sure to watch out for my girl at this new school of yours, won't you? Watch out for her and explain the magical things she needs to know?'

Also giving him the coin to buy Lily a treat, and saying "Keep the change." He's very kind, which is lovely to see.

And this made me laugh, such a great line: So now they all stood together, a mismatched crew of people who didn't much care for one another, all waiting to walk into a wall.

Thanks so much, Delphi! I mean... we know Lily's parents ADORE her, so it makes sense to me that they'd like the thought of the scruffy neighborhood boy helping her out. (Well, maybe not Mrs Evans so much...)
