Authors Note:For those who don't know already, I write alongside nadiabirdgirl, and together we created a four part series with an amazing (and slightly nuts) cast of charecters. They were raised in a prison/lab like facility called the school (which is a concept from the Maximum Ride series.) where they were essentially tourtured in the name of science. Most of them are human/avian hybrids (kids with wings.) the only acception being the twins, Thorn and Rose, Thorn being a human/lupine hybrid, Rose a cat/human hybrid.
I have three charecters out of the total six in our cast, Lily, Thorn, and Misty. For a long time I have kept one of these charecters pasts in the dark. Thorn is the only male in our group, and is often the quiet one in the group. His twin, Rose, was imprisoned with him in the school for years before they were rescued by the heroes of the story, Lily and Nadia, who both escaped the school before.
And so I have finally decided to bring Thorns story out of the dark. Thorn is carrying a terrible secret, one that has made him who he is. And it is on that note that I leave you to enjoy this story. :))

Disclaimer-I do not own Harry Potter, he belongs to JK Rowling and Warner Bro's. Maximum Ride also does not belong to me, she and her own crazy flock of mutants belong to James Patterson. I am truly greatful to both authors however, because without Harry Potter I would have no backdrop to lay my scene, and without Maximum Ride my co author and I would have never been introduced to Lily, Nadia, Thorn, Rose, Misty, and Harmony. :)

Thorn opened his eyes slowly, and as he did he found he could see nothing. Instantly he started to panic out of instinct, flailing around blindly as if he could force away the darkness with physical force. Then, just as quickly as the darkness came it turned into a great swirling of colors, flying around him and making him dizzy. "Whats going on? What is this? Someone help!" he found himself shouting, but it made little difference. Where was he? This wasn't the school!
As he watched the colors starting to take shape, the shape of people and finally a full scene in front of him. It was a hospital room it looked like, but a shudder traveled it's way down Thorn's spine. The hospital looked horribly similar to the school..he closed his eyes against the swarm of panic and awful memories that threatened to drown him.
As consumed in his misery as he was, Thorns eyes snapped open when he heard a soft voice, a familiar voice gently float to him, caressing him like a gentle wind with it's familiarity. Something was familiar about that voice, something happy but terrible at the same time, and he couldn't keep himself from shaking as he looked towards the source of the voice.
A woman was sitting in a hospital bed, with what appeared to be her husband by her side, and in her arms two bundles, one wrapped in a pink blanket, the other in blue. The woman was looking at the bundles, which Thorn realized were babies, with a kind of love that was so foreign to Thorn it almost scared him. He didn't understand what he was seeing, or why he was seeing it at all.
The mother looked to her husband, and he smiled adoringly at her in return. "Oh hon, aren't they the most precious things you have ever seen in your life?" the mother gently cooed gentle words at the babies in her arms. The man wrapped his arms around the woman, smiling lovingly at the two babies as he took the boy into his arms. "They are Jen, they are the most adorable babies I've ever seen." he whispered, as if afraid his voice would break the calm serenity of the room.
"What should we name them?" The woman named Jen asked, looking at the man. He seemed to think about it for a moment, all the while smiling at the boy in his arms, rocking him gently. "Thorn and Rose." he whispered, smiling at them. Thorn gasped, shaking his head back and forth quickly, as if somehow this would make it less real. "No..it can't be.." but Thorn was only eight, and he'd never known who his parents were before. He always had to put on a brave front for Rose, but seeing his parents broke any strength he had.
Oblivious to the older Thorns shock, his parents continued their conversation."Thorn because Thorns protect the Rose, and I have a feeling this little guy will always protect his sister. And Rose because his sister is as beautiful and delicate as a Rose." And Thorn could see, even from where he was in the room, that Rose was as beautiful as a Rose. Carmel color little curls on her head like a tiara, and golden brown eyes with rosy cheeks.
Thorn moved closer and closer to his parents, until finally he was right beside them. "Mom? Dad?" he said, but they didn't answer. They couldn't hear him. He moved a hand to touch his moms, but as soon as he did his hand went right through her. He leaped back as though he'd been burned, and found that his parents hadn't moved an inch, still not knowing he was there. "Whats going on here?" he thought upset, when the door opened and a man in a white lab coat came in.
Thorn's eyes widened in pure fear when he saw the whitecoat, and he yelled to his parents, "He's a whitecoat! He'll hurt you! Run!" but his parents didn't move. All he could do was watch.
"We need to run a few last minute tests on the babies." the whitecoat explained sounding perfectly reasonable, but his voice sent shivers down Thorn's spine. His mom seemed to think this was okay, and she handed both babies to the whitecoat and his assistant. "No..don't.." Thorn whispered, rooted to the spot because he knew what was going to happen.
His dad however seemed to suspect something about the whitecoat, and followed him and his assistant out the door, Thorn following right behind him, but not without taking a quick look back at his mother, who looked anxious and confused.. The whitecoats stopped when they heard a set of footsteps that was not there own behind them. They turned, and when they saw his dad they smiled politely, and Thorn wondered if his dad could see the evil behind their eyes.
"Is there someway we could help you sir?" One of the whitecoats asked politely. Thorn noticed his dads eyes were sparkling with what seemed to be barely supressed anger. "Give me my kids, now." he spoke in a barely controlled voice. He was very different from the gentle dad Thorn had seen in the other room.
"We need to do tests.." the other whitecoat put in, but Thorn's dad shook his head, drawing out an FBI badge. If the situation hadn't been so serious, Thorn would have laughed. The look on the whitecoats face was priceless. It was a look of someone who had just been bashed in the head quite hard.
"I know who you are, I've been looking into the "experiments" you lot do. Now I say to you again, give me my children, NOW." His dad looked just about ready to leap at the whitecoats, and with the muscle Thorn saw, he could likely tear the whitecoats apart.
"I don't think so." the whitecoat grinned visciously, and before his dad could do anything about it, he was grabbed and pinned to the ground by a huge and dangerous looking eraser. "Get your filthy hands off of me! Thorn! Rose!" the pure pain in his dads voice scared Thorn much more then anything he had witnessed in this memory. Despite the fact that he knew he was helpless to help his dad, seeing him at an erasers mercy was more then he could stand. He wanted nothing more then to rip the eraser limb from limb and then the whitecoats next. "Kill him, he knows to much." the whitecoat instructed the eraser and left. "NO!!" Thorn yelled and rushed to his dad, trying to free him from the eraser, but every punch he threw at the eraser was like hitting a ghost, his hand just went right through him.
"GET OFF OF HIM! STOP IT!" Thorn yelled, but he suddenly felt a cold wind breeze past him, and suddenly white smoke was swirling around him, forming chains around his wrists and ankles, pulling him backwards. "DAD!!" Thorn screamed his throat raw as he saw the eraser morph, and with a snarl lunged at his dad who screamed, and blood stained the floor red. A sobbing Thorn was surrounded by white smoke, and then seconds later found himself back in the school, where he curled up into a ball and sobbed out of pure pain and loss, now remebering the awful event that had brought him into pure hell itself.
