Harry Apparated to the edge of Hogsmeade and wrapped his cloak tightly around himself. It was much colder here than it had been in London, not that Harry had managed to get out of St. Mungo's for any length of time today. He was in his last few months of his healer residency and the hours were brutal. Today had brought in lovers hexing each other for everything from forgetting the day to failing to get their partner a nice enough gift. It had been pure insanity! Severus was right; Valentine's Day was nothing but a bloody menace.
Ignoring the display of expensive chocolates in heart shaped boxed in the window of Honeydukes, Harry continued through the village, headed towards Hogwarts. Despite the chill, it was a clear, moonlit night and it felt good to be outside. A burst of laughter came from Madam Puddifoot's as a couple slipped out the door, no doubt taking advantage of the romantic evening. Harry sighed, for once glad that he didn't have to worry about Severus expecting any starry-eyed overtures from him.
Although they had become friends almost five years ago while Severus healed from Nagini's near fatal bite, it was their first Valentine's Day as a couple. Harry knew that Severus could not abide any of the overly sentimental trappings of the holiday, as he described them. Despite Harry's deep desire to buy the man he loved the best dark chocolate he could find, a dozen long-stemmed deep red roses with daises and primrose, and a bonding ring, he knew it would make Severus uncomfortable. Smiling at the thought of Severus' reaction to flowers and pink hearts, Harry hurried up to the castle.
Harry made his way up to the seventh floor, waving to the gargoyle as he headed up to Severus' office. A single torch burned in the circular office, marking the staircase that led up to their private quarters.
"Severus?" Harry called out, taking the stairs two at a time.
"In here." Came the faint reply.
Pushing open the door, Harry stopped abruptly on the threshold. A table for two occupied their small sitting room; the air was full of floating candles, the fire crackled merrily, and the rich aroma of Beef Wellington made his stomach growl. It was a lovely, romantic setting and Harry stomach lurched nervously.
Severus stepped from the shadows with the slight, hesitant smile. "Happy Valentine's Day."
Harry stepped inside, allowing the door to close behind him. "I don't think you'd want to celebrate…"
Severus moved closer, his eyes intent on Harry's face. "I don't, but I knew you did."
Harry looked around the room and swallowed hard. "But I haven't done anything for you."
A hand cupped his cheek and turned his face toward Severus, whose eyes held a warmth that Harry had never imagined seeing there. "Idiot man, do you think that matters to me? You changed your desires in an effort to make me happy and that means more than I can tell you."
Harry covered the hand with one of his own. "You created this romantic dinner for me, even though you've always detested the sappy sentimentality of today."
"Perhaps I knew that it would win me sexual favors," Severus told him with a leer, before he kissed Harry passionately.
Harry was breathing hard when they parted. "As it should, although I think you missed the flowers," he teased gently, his heart soaring with happiness.
Severus' lips hovered over his as he drew Harry against him. "I brewed rose scented lube."

Who needs roses when you've got lube?! I want to say it'll last longer but with these two, perhaps not. ;) Love that Severus went to all that trouble for Harry. So sweet. Nicely done!

OMG, this is perfect for my prompt, thank you! So sweet of Severus to want to celebrate with Harry, and of Harry to be willing to NOT celebrate because of Severus' desires not to give in to the starry-eyed overtures. *g* Rose scented lube! Perfect. *giggles* Although don't tell George or it'll be a WWW product. ;) Brilliantly done, bb! LOVE it. ♥

The fact that both were willing to meet each other's expectations of the day says loads about their true feelings towards one another. Rose-scented lube - now that was unexpected, lol. Thank you.

I suspect the lube will be much more appropriate for their holiday than a handful of flowers. It was nice that they both put the preferences of the other over their own, but I still think the finest dark chocolates are never a bad idea.
