Whether you want to or not...1/2 robinellen February 15 2016, 03:10:20 UTC
"Where are you going, Severus?" Minerva stood at the bottom of the spiral stairs, watching Severus with raised brows.

"You know I don't care for this farce of a holiday," Severus grumbled.

A hint of a smile flickered. "I'm afraid I can't let you leave. We have that inter-house debate set up for tomorrow, and we need our Head of Slytherin here."

Severus scowled. He knew about the debate, of course. Professor Potter had set it up in a manner similar to academic games he'd apparently seen during his visits to America right after he completed his NEWTs. But this was the first he'd heard of the Heads of Houses having to be here. "I thought the prefects were covering that?" he said, narrowing his eyes.

"Actually," came Potter's voice from behind him, "I planned another type of wager between the Heads of Houses." He sounded determined.

Severus turned slowly. "And what would that be?" he asked, keeping his voice firm, despite the increased pounding of his heart. He and Potter had put aside their issues from during the war, and surprisingly, Potter had forgiven Severus for his horrible treatment. Although Severus was wary, it seemed they had become friends of a sort.

Potter met his eyes. "The losing Head will buy dinner for the winning Head."

"And why would I need to remain for that? There is no doubt my Slytherins will win, and if I am forced to go to dinner, it will certainly be at my choice. Therefore not this weekend," he added, in case it wasn't clear.

"You're so sure of that?" Potter grinned. "And what if you lose?"

"No chance," Severus scoffed.

"Nevertheless," interrupted Minerva. "You will remain, Severus, and be a party to the goings on."

Severus pinched his nose. "Fine," he ground out, swirling around and stomping back down to the dungeons. He thought he heard Potter say something as he went, but he ignored him.

The following evening, Severus stared at the final results' board, stunned. The Gryffindors had beat the others by ten points. Slytherin had come in last by a half point. "It was rigged," Severus muttered. "It must have been."

"So," came Potter's voice. "When are you taking me out?"

"Never," he responded automatically.

"Come now, Severus," Potter said.
