A bit of a change is coming to where I work, but it’s of the good kind.
We. Are. MOVING!
Yes, we in the PFS (Patient Financial Services) Department are moving to a new building on June 1st. This is good in many ways because the building we are in now is kinda crappy. Mostly due to mold and mildew. Lest I forget the whole ‘paint the ceiling tiles to cover the water stains’ fiasco…
Plus, another good thing for me at least is that this new building(s) are only 15 minutes away from where I live! Cause it’s kinda a pain to drive to the neighboring city in order to go to work, lemme tell ya. There are a few people where it would be farther since they live closer at present, but let’s be honest… I don’t care about them… ;D
There are a few concerns I may have about this move however, so I will go over the pros and cons using the tried and true +/- method:
+ closer to where I live.
+new building, cleaner and (presumably) less mildew.
-potential lack of privacy. One thing with where I am now is that I am pretty much in an office by myself which I kinda like. I don’t have anyone with their strong scented lotions and whatnot to bother me. I dunno what the seating arrangements will be like.
-EVERYONE in the whole department will be there. Granted, they’ll be split among three buildings connected by a hallway, but it makes for a lot more people and the lack of privacy I mentioned above. Plus, there will be supervisors there. Last thing I need are random people looking over my shoulders. Let me work in peace.
-having to pack up all of my shit in order to move it to a new location. While I could use a little cleaning out of my desk drawers, it’s still a pain in the ass.
-space issues. I might now have the same amount of space I have now.
+/-a break room. While we have a break room currently, it’s very small and there is no place for people to sit and eat their lunches. This is why we currently sit at our desks and eat. But that also means we don’t need to clock out and that adds to our hours which means I get off early on Fridays. See the conflict there?
While it looks like the minuses are more than the pluses, I have to keep an open mind about all of this. I mean, some of the minuses may turn out to be pluses! So who knows? I did drive by the place today going into work and it does look like a decent set of buildings. I guess we’ll have to see. I mean, we need to go somewhere. The lease for the current building is up this year.
