Blue Lagoon. And if you can, it's REALLY worth your while to rent a car and drive the ring road around the island. We saw things we couldn't even imagine. Glaciers, lava fields, moonscapes, ravines, sheer cliffs of rock, mountains that look like the home of the gods, little farmhouses in the middle of nowhere. I've traveled around a lot, and Iceland remains my all time favorite destination.

Word on Skyr, it's awesome. Brenevin sucks, as does the putrified shark (I gagged). Make your way to Akureyri if you can, and Hofn, and Vik. There's great shopping in Hafnarfjordur. And see the original Geyser! I had no problems with the water, but it is heated geothermally, so it does have a certain sulfur scent to it. It's 100% environmentally friendly though, which makes you feel good about it. There's a nice flea market every Saturday in Reykjavik (down where the ships are moored in the harbor). Be prepared to eat a lot of cheese and deli meats. And yes, everyone there is gorgeous, superthin, and speaks nearly perfect English (except if you travel out to the hinterland).

Definitely rent a car though. And don't limit yourself to Reykjavik (it's a lovely but tiny little town, you can do it in three days, tops).

I don't have a driver's license (yes, I know) so it would be up to my fellow to do the driving. Did you have any trouble with the gravel roads? I'll see if I can talk him into it. Otherwise we'll do the bus tours.
We definitely need to leave the city.
Vik is on my list of places I want to go, too.
Good to hear the water may in fact be fine. I was just reading that running the cold water for a minute should clear any sulfur smell? I guess I'll find out soon enough!
