Yes, we are going to Iceland. Iceland! ICELAND. I can't remember ever being so excited for a trip. First stamp on the passport & all. Whoa

iceland was my first trip overseas as well! it's a very nice first trip to have.
this was before bryan liked to travel so i went with some girlfriends. i did not encounter anything negative at all. oh, except - do NOT drink the water. it is very high in sulfur and will give you some bad tummy problems.
you have to visit the blue lagoon. i enjoyed all our activities. the snowmobiling on the glacier was part of a supertruck adventure tour. the whole tour was awesome and included riding the tiny icelandic horse.
everyone in iceland is GORGEOUS so be prepared. i felt so mousy and ugly the entire time i was there. hahaha.
get your hair cut while there! i did and it was so cool. no one cut hair like that in the US until about 2 years after i came back. i got a crazy asymmetrical shag.
eat the SEAFOOD! do not eat the chinese food - it sucks! LOL.
just walk around and get lost - i felt safe, and we were a group of women. i even went out by myself sometimes. have a great time!!!
We're staying at an apartment-style guesthouse (Castle House) so we'll have the option to cook for ourselves. Thanks for the warning about the water. Everything I'd been reading said the tap water was fantastic for drinking. I'll be more careful now. Oh no! My poor husband. I think he was looking forward to seeing what Icelanders would do with Chinese food. Well, maybe some new places have sprouted up in the last few years? (I'll keep my fingers crossed!) I feel mousy in New York, so at least that won't be a change! Ha! Okay, we're definitely going to stop at the Blue Lagoon, either on the way to or from the airport, most likely. Thank you so much for all the advice!
maybe i am wrong about the water? - maybe it was just my super sensitive stomach but it definitely does have a lot of sulfur. if your stomach is tough you could try drinking it - but let me tell you, it sucks having tummy issues when traveling like that.
ooh, cooking for yourself will be so fun! going to the grocery store was an adventure. EAT the SKYR - yogurt. it's Delicious!! wow, i miss that stuff.

This video really made me want to never try the shark! Actually, don't watch that. I'm definitely trying the skyr, though, and I'm pretty excited about poking around at the grocery stores. I'm kind of hoping that my limited knowledge of German will help me to guess at what the labels say. (I believe German and Icelandic are very distant cousins?) It will definitely be an adventure!
