seeking: a parallel dimension

I know one or more of you will have some great recommendations, so here goes:

I'm obsessed with stories like Haruki Murakami's "Kafka on the Shore" and Paul Auster's "New York Trilogy" right now.

What else would I like?

I'm looking for novels (or short stories, or comics) that dwell in that odd in-between world -- not quite reality, but not exactly mystery or fantasy or magical realism, either (although they may incorporate bits of all those things). It's a tough thing to describe, but it's a genre (if you can call it that) that moves me like no other. I've gotten the same sort of vibe from films, in the work of David Lynch or Miike's "Gozu", and I love that feeling, like you've somehow slipped into another world, so much like our own on the surface -- but only on the surface.
