[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Anthony J. Crowley, or rather just Crowley. (Also known as Crawly, but he'd insist that Crawly is not him.) Also known by other titles such as the Serpent, Serpent of Eden and has various false names used over the time period of six thousand years.
Age: Over six thousand (6006 to be precise) by the standards of time, and long even before time itself existed. On the outside, he looks in his late twenties/early thirties - somewhere around 27.
Gender: Technically male, but you know how these things go.
Fandom: The cult classic known as Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett
Timeline: A fine while since the end of the book, including the New Year's Resolutions.
History: ...so there doesn't seem to have much in stone for Crowley's history, so I will attempt to write something vaguely looking like a history which will be found
here.
Character Personality: Anthony J. Crowley (or more usually referred to as Crowley by the norm, flash bastard to several others) is the kind of guy who loves to ooze style and substance in his every step and show it out through his ever actions. To the passing stranger he looks very much like a person who prides himself in his style, carrying himself with an air of what can be called 'self value'. Indeed, Crowley is a guy who cares only for himself more often than not, though of course there have been a good number of exceptions to this case in the many years he's been living in the world. Since the beginning, and even before then.
Despite his very man-like figure, Crowley is in reality a demon, one of the oldest and one who mankind knows the best - for he is the demon who caused all of humanity to fall from the grace of Him; the serpent who tempted Eve to take the apple and share the fruit of knowledge with her husband. This is Crowley, the tempter, the Serpent - better known as mankind's first demon. And after having lived six thousand years with them, also known as Hell's most approachable demon which to be honest, isn't that all far from the truth. Living on earth with mankind and Aziraphale for six millenniums has changed Crowley in more ways than one; far from being demon he used to be, now Crowley is a demon who understands humanity more than understanding himself. He may be a demon binded to Down Below and living without a free will, but as he says himself, after living on earth for so long he can't help but pick up a few things from them.
In the ways of humanity, Crowley can only be both impressed and disgusted by them; impressed because they learn how to change and adapt and learn in ways that he and Aziraphale can't, and equally disgusted because they're capable of things that even Crowley himself can't stand (such as the infamous Spanish Inquisition). Which is really saying something, considering this is a servant of Hell. He's forever curious about humans and the ways they think, because he has admitted on many occasions that they do take him quite by surprise - indeed, he's studied and used humanity's own tendencies for his own advantage, something no other demon from Hell has ever really done. Spending such a long time on earth by himself for the most part has made Crowley quick-witted and smart, sharp to notice things others would not and has a way of making words work with him and can be quite charismatic when he wants to be. Though considering he's the Serpent of Eden, perhaps all of this isn't so surprising at all.
Still, in spite of the fact that he is a demon with very demonic tendencies, Crowley is still a demon with some sort of personal honor. Between fight or flight Crowley will choose the latter as much as he's allowed to, and if he is forced into a fight he will always try to use words instead of fists. Fighting is never in Crowley's code, and as much as he can he will avoid it at all costs, preferring to get away in order to live for another day. Even for Crowley he does have his own standards - standards that the humans occasionally go way over - and its those standards that really give Crowley a rather redeeming quality. He may be a demon, but Crowley has long since become a demon with very human instincts and reactions even if he'll never realize it. Sure he can't starve or thirst and will only be 'inconveniently discorporated' at most, but many of his actions and thoughts have long since turned into something much more human, compared to one of a demon's.
Character Abilities: As a demon Crowley has a fair number of supernatural abilities that pretty much make him invincible. He's able to twist human minds in anyway he wishes to, wipe and replace memories, induce temptation and all sorts of evil in various ways, employ his powers to do just about anything within the laws of nature (and a good number outside of them). He can also shift form should he want to and perform a never-ending line of miracles on his own end (for as much as he is Fallen, it does not change his species as an angel). He can't really be killed by human means (the worse would be 'inconveniently discorporated') and can't die via human means either since he isn't human. So to put it simply, he's pretty damned near invincible.
On the non-supernatural end Crowley is a nimble thinker, quick-witted and sharp and of course, gifted with a silver tongue (although it is long and forked). He's a man who can charm just about anyone, and one who certainly knows how to talk to people and sway them to his own cause. It is also without a doubt that he is charismatic, though Crowley very much prefers keeping his head low so as not to attract attention from Above, Below or Aziraphale. And maybe the Antichirst too as well, these days. You really never know what can happen now in these times.
Character Weaknesses: As a demon, Crowley has a weakness to all things blessed and holy; putting in him a church will make him itch, saying a prayer with him around will make him sick and dousing holy water will utterly kill him and things like that. That aside, being something close to immortal for over six thousand years already, Crowley has never really put much attention on his own safety for the things that he does (like driving his car way past the speed limit). This tendency is going to be a big weakness for him in Death City, especially since because he's human now with very real limits and very real dangers waiting for him. If Crowley isn't careful and lets his own recklessness get to him, then it is without a doubt that he will be in very serious trouble - and in the worst case, very much dead.
Crowley also does have a rather short temper when it comes to things that concern him greatly, such as his plans or his one close friend Aziraphale. He tries to control himself often, but his own impulses get the better of him more often than not, along with his tendency to be rather short-sighted when it comes to planning things from time to time. Crowley has always depended heavily on his demonic powers to aid him or get him out in a pinch, and losing them is going to be another big problem for him. Or to put it simply, its the act of being completely human which will give no end to Crowley's stress, because after six thousand years of being an immortal its not going to be easy to be suddenly mortal instead.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?: Hahaha well. Nothing, really. The only thing that he's go now in the game would be his mind, and that's not going to do much too since he does rely a lot on his abilities back in his world. Crowley's going to have to need to learn how to live like a proper human now.
What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?: Chiefly, losing all of his once near-omnipotent abilities is going to affect Crowley a lot. After having spent six thousand years and more living as a demon with power that comes to him any time, losing all of that is seriously going to put Crowley in a bad position. Now that he can't miracle anything to his advantage, Crowley's going to have to learn how to live the mundane human life - which while he is used to, is going to be a lot more harder since now he has to do things like needing to plug his electronics before they work and will be experiencing all the necessities and limits that comes with a proper human body - something which he indulges on but never took it seriously. Obviously, that's all going to change.
Following that, his own personality is going to work against him too - being near invincible (in a sense) means that Crowley is going to learn how to be careful and keep his head low; things he can do but sometimes isn't as good as he hope he can be. He can't afford to be reckless here now instead, since dying would mean dying and after six thousand years, Crowley has no plans on doing anything like that anytime soon, especially since Armageddon is now thwarted and all that.
Though the one consolation he has is that since he's no longer a demon, he won't be affected by holy/blessed items and things. Still not much of a comfort though.
Keeping the game’s premise in mind, please give us a brief explanation of your plans for your character in Soul Campaign: Well firstly and most importantly, this game will force Crowley to learn how to deal with life as a literal human. He's spent six thousand years observing them and picking up some of their habits and ways, but in heart and soul he's always been a demon first and foremost. With BREW stripping all of his demonic abilities (or suppressing them, whichever), this will be forcing Crowley onto a whole new frontier he's only ever thought about but never dared to do: living as a bona fide, 100% human. Obviously it's going to be hard for him, but he'll have to deal. :V
Another would be Crowley, well, learning how to choose a side properly. In the book he chose humanity and Earth, he chose to fight for the world that lets him have the things he unwittingly keeps close to his heart. But - well, he had never really... stuck to it properly, at least not until the oncoming Apocalypse anyway. Being in Death City, and being stuck there will be forcing Crowley to go in different directions, to make a decision for himself where hopefully and eventually, he will make the choice to help Shibusen. Most likely some Aziraphale intervention is needed here, but he'll hopefully make the decision to help in the end.
Also, having Crowley learning how to deal with electricity properly will be amusing. Hurr hurr.
[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Weapon: Because, well. Crowley is a demon, a being tied and made to obey Hell without question. He's been Hell's agent for as long as he can remember, and then plus another recorded time of six thousand years. As much as he does move around on his own accord, he still has to move according to Hell's principles and Hell's rules, meaning that as much as he wants to he's not so entirely free. In a way, he is sort of Hell's weapon on Earth, though obviously he's go nothing on the Antichrist. But that's another thing altogether.
What is your character's Weapon form?: As a Weapon (without a partial form, for the record), Crowley assumes the rather undignified form of a... rope. A
natural fiber rope about ten meters long, to be precise. There's really nothing special looking about the rope itself, maybe other than the fact that the texture if the rope is a bit more akin to scales than the material of the rope itself. Other than that, there's really not much about the rope. While in his Weapon form Crowley gains a number of abilities which will sort of hopefully help his Meister, and they are:
- FIRST: Initial resonance with Crowley will enable either the Meister or Crowley himself to be able to control the movement of the rope - or rather, the body of the rope (if that makes sense). He will also be able to attach himself to any surface that is plausible for him to grab onto, such around a ledge or anything that can secure his position properly. Anything else (such as wholly smooth surfaces or things too big for him to wrap around properly) will be off-limits for him, unless his Meister is able to work around the problem somehow.
- SECOND: By putting Crowley in a complete circle or any other shape that is from end to end, he will be able to erect a barrier of sorts in order to protect his Meister and whoever else is within the perimeter. It does not disguise or hide souls - merely a shield to defend any physical attacks that might come to them - magical ones will go straight through. The strength of the shield and how long it can stand will be dependent on resonance and Crowley's own strength. This ability can also be achieved even if Crowley is coiled up or whatever, as long as the ends meet each other one way or another - but of course, the shield will only be as big as the area that Crowley himself covers. Like with all his other abilities, the Meister needs to keep a hold on Crowley (any part of him, as long as there is physical contact) for this ability to take effect, so just placing him on the ground won't have any effect unless the Meister resonating with him has a hold on him somewhere.
This ability is very heavily dependant on Crowley's own power and the resonance he has with his Meister - like with most of his other abilities, it increases with every kishin egg he eats, each one granting a one percent increase. From his initial time of thirty seconds, every kishin egg that Crowley eats will give him a two-second boost to this ability (tl;dr one kishin egg = +1% to shield power, +2 seconds to shield time). Still, should any attack overwhelm what power he has the shield will be rendered useless, and Crowley will be unable to use it again until his next battle after resting. How much and how strong Crowley can hold up this ability also depends on the enemies that he faces - if its something like a weak, normal kishin then he should have no problems handling its attacks. If its against other partnerships, renegade Weapons and Witches, then things will of course be a different story.
- THIRD: A branch out from his second ability, the shield that Crowley generates will be able to absorb and return the power/energy of the attack to whoever Crowley and/or his Meister directs it to (something like the way Sebastian Shaw does in X-Men: First Class). However, this amount of damage that Crowley is able to return is dependant on the number of kishin eggs that Crowley has devoured. One kishin egg equates to one percent, so it builds up by one percent with every egg he eats. So starting at base zero it would be zero percent, one percent with one egg, fifteen percent with fifteen eggs and so on and so forth. Which means that of course, he'll only hit a hundred once he reaches his Deathscythe status (whenever that will happen anyway).
There are, of course, also limitations to how much Crowley can take in and how he can use this ability. A Witch's power would most likely prove too much for him (unless he's highly powered, or at Deathscythe status), and any attacks stronger than what he can handle will also not work, since his second ability needs to be active first before he can use this particular one. He can only use this ability as so long as he can still put up his shield - once the shield is down, this ability cannot be used until he can use his second ability once again. Continuous use of this ability will also drain Crowley very quickly, since it requires his own energy to convert and redirect the energy of the attack; he'll only be able to do this about three or so times at the beginning, but that can be improved with more work and as he increases in strength from the kishin eggs.
- FOURTH: Any knots tied on Crowley while in his Weapon form will instantly make that knot poisonous to touch for everybody else except the Meister who created said knot. Crowley is able to rid the affected of the poison along with his Meister while they're resonating, as well as any healing abilities from other Weapons/Meisters which can cure it. The poison is a paralysing serum akin to that of snakes, causing him/her/it temporary paralysis whose potency (going up to paralysing a limb) and time limit goes on as long as Crowley's level of power - and like with his earlier ability, it increases with every kishin egg he eats. So for this case, one egg equates to one percent of paralysis he can cause, and one percent of the maximum time limit he can induce his poison, which is ten minutes; thus in this manner, one kishin egg equals to about six seconds. (tl;dr again one kishin egg = +1% to paralysis, +6 seconds to time of ability)
There are a few limitations to this ability: firstly, the number of beings he can 'poison' depends on the number of knots tied on him, one knot per being; so one knot would be one guy/girl/thing, two knots equals to two of them and so on. The knots also must be separate to affect multiple parties - putting a knot on a knot will simply equate to one knot still, rendering this ineffective. In addition, all poisons will only work on contact with bare skin - if the knot touches anywhere that is covered in one way or another, then the poison will not take root.
All abilities require constant physical contact with his Meister, meaning that the moment its broken, all his power will be gone as well and everything will be cut short. Although being a good, solid rope, Crowley would be useful for tying people up.
