Why I'd make a crappy mech pilot on post-apocalyptic Earth.

I've been watching Blue Gender and thinking about some of the parallels to the third Robotech series: Invid Invasion/New Generation and I've decided that I'd probably be a pretty crappy freedom fighter/mech pilot.

Not even taking into account my fairly poor hand/eye reflex abilities which anybody who's squared off against me in video games can attest to (Megan, Garrett ... and the list goes on), I can't fix a damn thing and there's no way I could keep up with the maintenance on a 30 foot tall robot (I barely remember to change the oil on my Neon and get the inspection tag renewed).

And considering the fact that I forget the menu at my fry cook job and talk-off procedures at my bill collection job from one week to the next (also half or more of the buttons on any given vid game) I can just see myself sitting in a cockpit pressing the red button over and over again and hoping it doesn't arm the self destruct mechanism.

Then there's dealing with the locals. Every time a military group runs into town folk, they eventually get sold out and set up for an ambush.
Then they have to resolve the feelings of inner conflict over whether it's the enemy or themselves that are the truer threat to the common good.
I can't see myself as having any such inner conflict, if those bastards set me up I'd be burning their homes and firing off rocket propelled grenades into their houses.

So, when the Earth goes boom, you might want to look for someone else to man your army of remote controlled drones and robot kill machines . . . sorry.
