Iceocalypse 2011

Feb 01, 2011 22:25

I've been seeing that name on the interwebs for the snow and ice storm the Midwest has been hit with. It's been deceptively mild - No great blizzard of snow and ice here, just a constant rain of sleet, freezing rain, and a little bot of snow. The result? Everything is covered in ice, trees are so heavy branches are cracking and falling off (a couple in my own backyard), business are closed (guess who has two days off), and power and phone lines are down all over. Not to mention, leave your domicile (I totally typed domicicle heh) at your own peril... I had boots on and slipped on my own front porch!

So, here are some pictures I took today before the ice got really bad.

The bush in front of my house in the wee hours of the morning.

The bush, earlier today.

My car! It's covered in about 1/4 inch of ice.

A large branch that fell in my backyard. My foot for scale~

The tree it came from. Said tree has since deposited another medium-sized branch in the yard, and I'm unable to get to the backyard to look at it properly.

Composite of the branch. In the foreground, there is now the branch the tree dropped earlier this evening.

That are some thick ice~

If nobody moves that thing, and the weather is better tomorrow, I might go climb on it!

Smaller branch.

First attempt at a picture for scale. Heh.

A 22s movie of my backyard You can hear a train whistle above all the other sounds, which is unfortunate as I was trying to capture the clinking and creaking of the trees.

How is everyone else holding up?
