Background:

Back in July, I blew out 2nd gear in my transmission in the Corvette. I had to cut the exhaust off at the transmission cross-member to get the transmissions swapped. Since then, the back half of the exhaust (catalytic converters included) has been sitting in my garage. Recently, I received the brake parts necessary to make the car road-worthy again. They're installed now, and I want the exhaust back on (It's actually too loud for my taste, believe it or not.) So I went in to Meineke today to ask the guys there to put the exhaust back on.

What happened:

I went in and explained how I work with one of the guys who used to work there and was referred. I told them how I want to put my Corvette exhaust back on minus the catalytic converters, and he gave me all this "10000 dollar fine if you get caught with no cats" speech.
I was like, "DUDE The thing's not even subject to emissions control anymore."
And he responded, "Sorry, I really can't help you."

My car is over 25 years old and is no longer classified for emissions inspections or restrictions in the state of Georgia. That's pretty much the case for a lot of the country. I don't understand why it's so complicated to DO WHAT I ASKED.

Instead of like a hundred dollars to replace a section of pipe and weld the under-car portion of the exhaust,
I'm now looking at over 400 for replacement exhaust because I can't afford to send the car off to have the exhaust fixed by a custom hot rod shop.

UGH
