Oh, but Dean has been forgiven for the things he's done to Sam. I could list a lot things that Dean has done to Sam that has either hurt his little brother or has given his little brother the impression that he wasn't good enough or he wasn't being a good son.
But I'm not because those instances are in the past. Sam has been given second chances but to what extent? Dean stopped trusting him for the longest time, Dean still talked to him like he was doing something wrong he even went to the extent of saying 'no' to Sam when Sam called him the night Lucifer gave him a visit and begged him to allow him to come back. I wouldn't say that Sam was given second chances so easily. Because he wasn't really forgiven that easily. It was only at the end of season 5 where we see Dean really forgiving Sam and showing Sam that he does trust him and will stand by him. It took the middle of season 6 for Dean to say that he forgave everything that was badly done, sweep it under the rug and start a new slate. So, again, not easily forgiven. Now, maybe fandom has easily given Sam a second chance because they want the brothers to have this tight bond again.

If Dean were in Sam's shoes I'd forgive him, not because Dean isn't responsible for his actions, but because Dean is Sam's brother and no matter how messed up he became, no matter how screwed up he was I'd want him to be forgiven so he and Sam could start building that bond again.

Ask yourself, why did the dialogue in Fallen Idols take place at that stage and not much much earlier?
