#Supernatural Review 6x11

Dean the older brother, protector of his younger brother, the knight in beat up yet very classic armor, kept his promise to Sammy. "As long as I'm around, nothing bad is going to happen to you." - Nightmare.

"You're my brother, I won't let you get hurt." - Appoitment in Samara.
Dean might have been talking to Sam, but he was promising Sammy. His brother who was trapped in hell, being tortured and God knows what else being done to him, that promise and reassurance was meant for that Sammy.

Jeez, it's no wonder there are fanfics out there with possessive/overprotective Dean! If it had been any other person in this situation, I believe they would have been content with having their brother alive and hunting with them. But no, Dean needs his Sammy, he needs the brother he raised and practically parented. The idea that his Sammy was not with him really put a wrench in Dean's life. I mean he was willing to play death for a day to get Sam's soul back, even after being told that the wall Death would put up for Sam wouldn't really hold back the bad memories for long.

What I truly enjoyed about this episode was the juxtaposition of the importance of life and the need for death. Yet, life is what remained the strong point at the end of the episode. Dean might have failed his mission, he might have screwed up and lost the bet, but he proved yet again that he is a force to be reckoned with. Dean Winchester is to be feared and to be regarded as the pain in the ass who wouldn't die, in the supernatural world. And now that his brother is back, forget about it! Boom! Everything that isn't human should think about relocating to another planet.

O'Death, won't you spare me over for another year...
Sam was truly spared for a whole year, he was able to live his life, be the best hunter he can be, not feel the suffering and pain and loss and ache. Now, it's Sammy's turn to be spared. As much as I loved soulless Sam, as much as I wanted to be the hippie chick, I was more than ready to see Sam's soul being returned to him. Dean did the right thing by Sam, and he did the right thing by the world. Cause you know one Winchester will cause chaos, but two Winchesters, will end the world!

Dean I believe Sam is questioning your intentions.
# So, now that Sam has his soul back...
Yeah, now that Sam has his soul back, will he still remember hell or will he not remember anything at all? Will it be like complete black out from the moment he jumped into the pit? Because you know, that would be kind of lame. I know that the wall won't last, we've been told that much, but how long will it last before we do start to see Sam appearing to remember the horrors of Samara. Which by the way is of Arabic origin and means guardian, or protected by God. It's also an ancient city in Iraq. Fitting for the title and episode, seeing as how Sam's soul was kept guarded in the worst of places. Even Death seemed shook up when he returned from that place. Gosh, I'm afraid soulless Sam is going to be right about this one. Dean's whole world is going to fall apart when those walls come down.

"Dad said, that I might have to kill you, Sam" - Hunted
Could the series end with a broken Sam pleading to Dean to end his misery, and Dean finally obliging him?! O_O *dies*.

# Best parts of the episode?

Bobby not getting killed.

Death being awesome!

and just about everything else. From Dean's major screw ups, to Sam's major no no. Normally, I would be ranting and raving about them, but somehow their actions were pretty canon to the situation they found themselves in. Dean being only human, doing the human thing, disrupting the balance of the universe. Sam being Sam, doing the soulless thing, attempting to kill his father figure. All was well in the world in this episode, every place had it's thing and everything in it's place. Death is back to being Death, Dean is back to being the big brother and Sam has his soul back. Yes, all is right in the world of Supernatural. Can't complain.

My rating for this episode: 10 out of 10

My rating for the promo for next episode: 2.5 out 10
Yeah, yeah, I know. They didn't want to show any spoilers and what not. But come on! We have practically a whole month before the show comes back. Couldn't they have given us something ... more!
