I do think although Kripke based Sam somewhat on himself, Dean is obviously a wish-fufillment character in a way. :P you know, like "Sam is the sensitive type that i am, Dean is the cooler (but still caring) guy that geeks always sometimes wish they could be" type of thing. you know? which would account for why Sam seems more "real" and Dean seems a bit more stylized or too-cool-to-be-real or whatever. i do think a lot of Dean's character is certainly about "manipulating the fangirls", for sure, but i would not say he's inconsistent. I mean, if how he totally acted different in Provenance than the past few episodes is an issue - imo that still makes perfect sense with his character... that was the "ok, dude, i have been ALTOGETHER TOO SAPPY LATELY, i must go back to repressing, and dealing with my angst through beer and chicks" mood, which most characters like him seem to have. Obviously characters like him deal with their issues largely through repressing and Dean was having far too many angsty turns lately, so he had to recover with a binge, you know? i think he was also bracing himself because the protective/lonely of him obviously doesn't want to push Sam away from him and towards that girl but he knows that it's better for Sam so he does it anyway.
but i mean, yeah, they defenitely they seem to go out of their way to do the "oh Dean's tough but he's also sensitive and look at him and his sexy guns, he cares so much about his brother, oh, and he's nice to kids too! and... " yeah. he's totally a 'let's see how hormonally crazy we can make the fangirls and see what happens' character, IMO ;P sadly it's totally working on me anyway. like, i think occasionally he doesnt' act repressed enough, like that big emo moment he had in Shadow, but they obviously throw those in there because they know the girls will sniffle ^_~;;
the whole B.O.C. thing, though, it's just my own cracked opinion... :P i don't really expect everyone to think it's totally true... it's just kind of hard to explain why i find it so easy to believe that, so the explaination's not all that good. and i mean it's not like i don't realize i could be dead wrong, but... i dunno :P i mean, sometimes songs ARE good places to take inspiration from and it happens a lot.
I totally do agree that in *most* cases obviously the song is picked after the fact, though, of course, i don't disagree with that at all, i just think they are very purposefully picked and the lyrics are on purpose.
but yeah, i mean. i totally think the writers are messing with us. but on the other hand, i mean, the whole SHOW is like that. all i'm sayin' is that if they do something, it's supposed to be in there, so they meant something by it, even if they're gonna change their mind later or whatnot.
thanks for commenting though, now i want to go edit more (i mean there is stuff in there that i am just thinking on a whim, and stuff in there that i am more convinced about, but at this point i just wanted to get it posted coz it was taking too long. but shit, i could edit things for hours and not be happy with the outcome. lol. (jesus going back to university next year scares the crap outta me, i dont' know how i will ever finish editing my essays. it takes as long as writing the damn thing. :P) but i really need to go to bed ;_; lol.
