Dean didn’t know the aging doctor with a cane who was throwing some long, drawn-out metaphor about - well, Dean didn’t really know what - at him and Sam. All he knew was that he really wanted to punch this guy in the face; and he could tell he wasn’t the only one who felt this way from the passing looks of sympathy and snickering they got as they stood in the middle of the hallway. It had only been a few minutes since the brothers had pulled up to the giant building with the sign “Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital” in front of it, but he was anxious to get the job done and get out before he beat up a cripple.
“Sir” Sam said when the man had finally finished his rant. “We just wanted to know where the morgue was”
The man opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by a semi-short, somewhat older-looking woman with black curly hair. She gave the man a quick glare then turned to Sam and Dean.
“Can I help you gentleman?” she said with a smile.
The corners of Dean’s mouth curved upwards slightly as he eyed the woman head-to-toe. She was wearing a grey pencil-skirt that showed off her toned legs and a considerably revealing low-cut top, but she still managed to look professional at the same time.
The man with the cane seemed to notice him checking out the woman and he tensed up.
“Yes” Sam said, nudging Dean on the shoulder and snapping him out of his gaze. They pulled out their fake F.B.I. badges
“I’m Agent Jones, and this is my partner Agent Watts”
The woman straightened up a bit “Oh, well I’m Lisa Cuddy, the Dean of Medicine here.” Dean’s smile grew a little wider and his left eyebrow shot up.
“I like a woman in power” he mumbled to himself, but he must have said it louder than he thought because Sam slowly turned to him with his “What are you doing??” face, Lisa tilted her head a little; her smile turning awkward, and the man gave him a death glare accompanied with a look Dean had often used on Sam that said “One more word and I’m putting itching powder in your pants and a dead snake in your bed”.
Sam cleared his throat and started talking in an effort to break the awkward silence.
“We’re here to investigate the bodies missing from your morgue”
“Oh” she said, her voice a little curious “I didn’t know the F.B.I. was getting involved”. There was a little suspicion in her tone.
“Well we’re just tying up loose ends from another case.”
“okay then…well the morgue is this way, I’ll take you there” she said and walked towards the elevator.
The man with the cane gave Dean one last death glare as they followed Dr. Cuddy; and Dean threw a smirk back at him.
“I’m really sorry about Dr. House” Cuddy said as the elevator doors closed. “He’s…” she let out a tired sigh. “He can be a lot to handle sometimes, but he’s the best diagnostician in the hospital and one of the best in the country.”
“Right” Dean said to Sam “A doctor with terrible people skills, that’s a new one”
The elevator reached the bottom floor, and the shiny, metallic doors opened slowly.
“Dr. Byrne!” Cuddy suddenly called out. “Perfect. Agents, this is Dr. Byrne” she motioned to the man standing outside the elevator. He was a semi-chubby man in green scrubs, a white lab coat, and orthopedic sneakers, with a pair of plain, clear, circular glasses atop his nose. He had grey-ish stubble on his cheek and thinning, white hair with a combover “covering” his bald spot. Dean thought he seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
“Agents?” he repeated in a voice the older Winchester pictured Santa Claus having.
“Yes, these are Agents Jones and Watts with the F.B.I. They’re here to look into the missing bodies. Agents, this is Dr. Byrne, he runs the morgue”
Sam and Dean stepped out of the elevator to shake the doctor’s hand.
“If you have any questions” Cuddy said from the elevator “feel free to stop by my office on the top floor”.
“Will do” Dean said and threw her the most flirty and charming smile he could muster up. She blinked.
“Right” she said, looking down and obviously stifling a laugh.
“Dude, I’m totally in” Dean said to Sam when the doors closed. Sam laughed “yea right”
“Oh ye of little faith” Dean said, rubbing his hands together.
“Actually, I have to agree with the tall one” said Dr. Byrne as he lead them down the greenish hallway towards the morgue. “Rumor has it she’s dating Dr. House”
“That jerk with the cane?”
“That’d be him” replied Byrne, his tone still pleasant. “and she’s got a baby” he turned around, still walking, to face Dean and eye him over his glasses.
“Well, it’s not like I’m lookin’ for anything long term”
Byrne laughed “Son, I’m tellin’ you, you’re lookin’ for trouble”
“So” Sam interrupted, a little louder than nesseccary, as they reached the room where the bodies are kept “How many bodies are missing?”
“Well…” Byrne began “It was four, but a couple have…” he cleared his throat “turned up”.
Sam and Dean gave each other curious looks that slowly shifted to Byrne.
“We’’…” he started, seeing the clueless expression on their faces “Here, I’ll show you”
He pulled out the metal slab to reveal, not a body, but a clear, plastic box with a red-looking goo in its’ bottom.
“Oh.” The brothers said simultanioulsy.
