The Great X-Files Watch 2004 - Part 14

First Person Shooter
This is better than William Gibson's other episode, "Kill Switch." It's basically just an excuse to see Mulder and Scully be badasses. Chris Carter does a commentary track on this episode, and he talks about how the ending is pretty weak. They had the digital Scully done but hadn't originally wanted to use it. Some of the story is weak, too, with the girl creating the badass girl character and how did she get in the game, but oh well.

Theef
I can't believe they've never done the voodoo doll thing before. Not a bad episode. Scully being blind at the end was FREAKY!

En Ami
Dude, William B Davis wrote this episode!!! This is actually pretty cool. I like how he played Scully but we got to see her in a pretty dress anyway. And she had to lie to Mulder. NICE! William B Davis is a better writer than both Duchovny and Anderson!

Chimera
Okay so there's a raven? And keys? And Mulder stays with a family? And Scully is by herself on a nasty stakeout? What do these things have to do with each other? I'm still not sure.
Ellen Adderly: "Do you have a... a significant other?"
Mulder: "Um, not in the widely understood definition of that term."
YEAH MULDER you love Scully and you know it.

all things
So. As you may know, this episode starts with the pretty blatant insinuation that Mulder and Scully have slept together. Now, I knew Scully was going to get pregnant and they actually do end up together, but forgive me, I stopped watching when this stuff wasn't remotely possible, and I started FREAKING OUT when I saw the teaser sequence. I kept thinking they would explain this away later on, but the did not. Then, in the commentary track, Gillian Anderson basically says, yeah, I didn't originally write that in, but the producers were like, we're at the point in the season where we were planning on doing this, can we do it in this episode? Al;kadjf;alsdfkja;sdlfjk. I'm still in shock. Anyway, this is a pretty good episode. Gillian Anderson is a better writer than David Duchovny. She obviously has a deep grasp of her character, and a lot of Gillian Anderson, not Scully, comes through in the alternate beliefs and coincidences in this episodes. I enjoyed the character study, although I felt the plot was a little weak. The ending is really cute, too.

Brand X
I'm not sure how I feel about this episode. It's a play off the cigarettes-can-kill-you storyline, but ultimately it's about Scully saving Mulder. The science actually isn't that bad, just a little fuzzy. I don't know. I'm torn on this episode. It's not bad. It's just not special.

Hollywood A.D.
This episode was not quite what I expected. I thought it was just going to be silly fun, but there was an actual X-File, one that reminded me a lot of the Da Vinci Code, actually. So here's David Duchovny's writing/directing offering for this season. Better than the Unnatural, I must say. Haha, David, you're so cute how you have Scully say, "I think Tea Leoni has a crush on you." How cute that you cast your wife and your best friend. How cute that you mock the shipper fans, yet have Mulder and Scully walk away HAND IN HAND!!!
Scully: "Mulder, I have something to confess."
Mulder: "What's that?"
Scully: "I'm in love with Associate Producer Walter Skinner."
Mulder: "Ah... Me, too."

Fight Club
There are a lot of fun and funny things they did in this episode, like the Mulder and Scully lookalikes at the beginning and Kathy Griffin following herself around everywhere... I don't know. Why did they need to wreak havoc in the process? Mulder and Scully are so ugly at the end. It's sad that they had to beat each other up

Je Souhaite
Interesting that they've never done the genie idea. A modern-day genie is a great idea for an episode, I think. And the girl who played it was good. And all of the wishes being flawed and going wrong is good. And MARSHALL being in this episode is good. And Mulder wishing for her freedom like in Aladdin is good. And the end is good.
Mulder: "I can't believe you don't want butter on your popcorn. Uggh. It's un-American."
Scully: "'Caddyshack', Mulder?"
Mulder: "It's a classic American movie."
Scully: "That's what every guy says. It's a guy movie."
Mulder: "Okay, when you invite me over to your place we can watch 'Steel Magnolias'."
Scully: "So, um... What's the occasion?"
Mulder: "I don't know. Just felt like the thing to do. Cheers."
Scully: "Cheers."
Mulder: "I don't know if you noticed but, um, I never made the world a happier place."
Scully: "Well, I'm fairly happy. That's something. So what was your final wish, anyway?"
Yeah, Scully. Happy because you're getting some MULDER ASS.

Requiem
The whole trying to shut down the X-Files thing is OLD. OLD. OLD. Especially considering next season they're going to bring two new people in on it. But yeah. I loved the idea of them going back to their first case together. The girl playing Teresa still can't act. I'm sad about Mulder being abducted, of course. But, oh, so many good moments in this episode. When Mulder and Scully snuggle in bed. SQUEE!!! Krycek and Marita.
Mulder: "Scully, you have to understand that they're taking abductees. You're an abductee. I'm not going to risk... losing you." Silly Mulder. You're like the alien Jesus now. You're so gone. SCULLY IS PREGNANT WITH MULDER'S LOVE-CHILD! YAY!!!
