So, yesterday I took the civil service examination for that job with the City of Akron. You could tell that the test was specifically tailored for the position, as it included a lot of math and questions pertaining to very formal clerical functions within a city government. I took almost the entire time allotted to complete the exam, which was two hours and fifteen minutes. They were testing applicants all day, so it goes without saying that the pool of qualified people was much larger than I would have liked - probably well over a hundred. I didn't realise it was going to be so competitive. That aspect, coupled with the fact that the woman sitting at the table next to mine was quite possibly the most obnoxious calculator user ever, left me quite weary and frustrated. Once they have graded the exams, they will contact the three who scored the highest and schedule interviews. I don't favour my chances, but I don't think I'll feel too discouraged if I don't get called. At least I had the opportunity to even take that type of test, and it will be kept on file for a year which will give me an advantage if any other positions become vacant. Of course, any supposed "advantage" is undoubtedly dependent on whether or not I score well. Who knows? I could have nailed it, or I could have left them thinking: "god, this woman's an idiot." I could be a chocolate caramel, or I could be that gross dark chocolate-covered orange nougat that no one likes. Either way I'd know something.
My Industrial Psychology group got a 100% on our final project and presentation, which was entirely validating, for our professor can be very tough when it comes to grading. After we presented Tuesday night, some of us went to Geisen Haus for a celebratory drink. Dezirae had one and left due to a prior obligation, so Dan and I hung out a while and drank. I came home and attempted to begin going over my biology notes, but the beer and food dulled me. Fortunately, I have most of the weekend to pore over papers and past homework.
