Memorial Day weekend

^ Sean and his beloved Mexican soda.

The holiday weekend did not disappoint.  It was busy and hot but quite relaxing.  On Saturday, Sean and I walked about six miles on the Towpath and then went to Shaffer's afterward to get some fresh produce and veggie burgers for the cookout at Keith's we were attending later on.  After going home to get showers, we headed up to Akron to get Jim and then convened with everyone after first stopping at Acme for drinks and snacks (by the by, it was well worth the humiliation I felt carrying a six-pack of Smirnoff Wild Grape around the grocery store to see Jason get "iced", though I really wanted Sean to be the unfortunate victim - maybe next time?).   Though the evening gave way to clouds and the afternoon heat was waning, the cookout and the company was great.  Once dusk arrived, we went in to Sandra's and hung out for a while before parting ways.  We dropped off Jim and drove back home for some cereal and sleep.

The next day we did some shopping and had lunch at this Mexican place in Belden Village called Chips & Salsa.  I got vegetarian fajitas, which were delicious, but I couldn't finish it all (partly because their portions were gigantic, but mostly because my belly was still full of New Castle and various snacks from the night before). Sean enjoyed his meal as well, especially the Tamarind Jarritos he had with it.  Later on, he went to spend some time with Jim and I went to see my mom and Billy for a bit.  Though I can't and won't go into details, I've had some rough family issues lately, so I have been making a conscious effort to visit with them more.  Plus, I had purchased a huge box of Frosted Flakes as a silly little gift for Billy and I wanted to drop them off to him, as they are his favorite.  By the time I got home, I was exhausted but resolute in keeping myself occupied.  I turned on some summer music (my choice for the night was a collection of Sergio Mendes remixes I had first heard while at the Outer Banks last May - it makes me feel lifted), cleaned my bathroom, and watched some episodes of The Golden Girls until I fell asleep on my livingroom couch.  Sean came back around 2 am, woke me up, and took me to bed.

Family cookout at Trent's on Monday.  Since I didn't have to work, I lazed about the apartment with the boy until he left to go biking, and I did a tiny bit of shopping, though not much since my current financial situation does not allow me to be as pound-foolish as I'd like to be.  Around 4, I met Sean at Trent's, and we all proceeded to have a dandy afternoon.  Corn on the cob, watermelon, macaroni salad, fruit pizza, frisbee, humidity.  It was perfect.  Sean and I left a little after 7, took a walk at Boettler Park, and watched some Law & Order SVU until retiring to bed.

It is a cool Thursday night, the air ripe with spring's memory.  I believe it shall be a good night for sleeping with my bedroom window open and a blanket or two covering my limbs.
